As the wildfire smoke rolls into Western WA this week, here is a reminder about air quality and it's effects on horses. Limit riding/exercise at 100 AQI and absolutely avoid it entirely over 150 AQI. Remember that at high AQI, even if NOT working during it, it can take WEEKS for your horse's lungs to recover. 🚭 🐴 😷

Thinking of everyone in the immediate areas and paths of these horrible wildfires throughout BC, WA, and OR. ❤️‍🩹

This photo makes me incredibly proud ⭐️

Luna and I have been working so hard at tackling this test with more grace, power, harmony, and ease. The left trot half-pass has always been our nemesis but this moment encapsulates our progress, not because it’s perfect, but because it represents a small milestone.

Carl Hester once said, “Don’t beat yourself up your first year at Grand Prix. Find your way around it and improve it for the next eight or so years.” That perspective has stayed with me. Excellence is built through thousands of small improvements.

I’ve learned that you have to be more addicted to growth than you are to comfort. The goal in training is to make the right thing easy & to build understanding, strength, confidence, and technique so the horse can truly thrive.

Don’t wait for perfection to be proud of your horse. Celebrate every step toward greater harmony. Don’t let what isn’t perfect distract you from everything that IS moving in the right direction. That’s where the magic happens. That’s where partnerships are built.

One of my favorite reminders is to ride every horse as if it’s the best horse in the world. Too often we ride expecting mistakes, and in trying to prevent them, we rob the horse of the opportunity to learn. Horses learn through trial and error, and when we believe in them first, they often rise to meet that belief.

My philosophy is guided by one simple question: Where does the horse look most alive, and are we willing to follow that path? Let moments of lightness, expression, and true connection guide your training. Rather than chasing an outline or a score, protect willingness, develop strength, and cultivate harmony. Progress isn’t forced, it is revealed.

As Dr. Wayne Dyer wrote, “Peace is the result of retraining your mind to process life as it is rather than as you think it should be.” Horses teach us that lesson every single day.

What do you do when the air quality is too poor to ride?

You let your horse crazy 10-year-old student spend the afternoon grooming, hand-grazing, and taking the sweetest mare for a walk.

Even though Sofi is only 4 years old, she is incredibly kind and gentle. Watching Sofi and Vivi bond was one of those simple moments that reminds you what horses are really about.

Sometimes the best days at the barn aren’t the ones filled with training. They’re the quiet ones, just a little girl and a horse enjoying each other’s company and being in the moment together.

Moments like these remind us of the little girl inside all of us who first fell in love with these incredible, honest creatures. 🤍 How lucky are we to have them. Thank you Vivi for showing Sofi some love and attention today, I’m not sure who enjoyed it more.

THM asked Hubertus Schmidt: Can you tell if you are working in the correct way?“There is one way to check that you are on the right way – in the high collection you must be able to stretch them so they follow the bit and they are not stuck up there. In every situation you must be able to stretch them – even a piaffe or a pirouette, even then, I must be able to do it.https://www.horsemagazine.com/thm/2024/01/hubertus-schmidt-on-classical-training/

✨ SheSaysHello “Sofi” ✨
2022 Thoroughbred Mare | 15.2h | Auburn, WA

Some very special horses are born wanting to be part of a family and a good, useful riding horse and sweet Sofi fits this description and has the sweetest personality you’ll ever meet to match.

Every day she proves what a special mare she is. She is kind, eager to learn and wonderfully uncomplicated. Her quiet demeanor and trusting nature make her a joy to ride and handle and I think that she is going to love to jump.

Sofi is the definition of an old soul. She is affectionate without being pushy, level-headed, incredibly kind, and genuinely wants to please. After coming off the track, she went to an Intro to Fox Hunting Clinic and then she enjoyed 10 months of turnout simply being a horse. Now back in training, she continues to impress everyone who meets her and has quickly become a barn favorite.

She is currently in professional training (30 days), and we are taking our time to preserve her confidence while continuing her education. Finding the right home is our highest priority. She would excel with a savvy kid on a budget, has the mind and quietness for an adult amateur or someone looking for a sweet adventure buddy.

🥕 Mid-$4,### (price will increase with training)
