Serving our community for the past year has been the craziest, happiest, most emotional, chaotic, rewarding, and fulfilling experience imaginable. It has been an absolute privilege to do this work, which is why we are so sad to announce that the Scratch Pad will be closing permanently by the end of next week.
This is not a decision we’ve made lightly, and there were many factors that led us here. And while it is devastating that it’s over, we want to look back and celebrate everything this little rescue has meant over the past year to us, to our community, and most importantly, to the cats.
To everyone who volunteered, donated, bottle-fed tiny kittens at 2 a.m., scrubbed litter boxes with us, sat with us during the heartbreaking moments, offered words of encouragement when we needed it most — we cannot thank you enough. You made this all possible. You made this place special.
Our goal from the start was simple: to help cats and give them a better life by providing medical care, sterilization, and the opportunity to find loving homes. But what we didn’t expect was the impact our little cat rescue would have on us. The friendships we’d make, the moments that we’d remember forever, and the many unexpected ways that we’d connect with our community.
In the past year, we:
🐾 Found homes, provided medical care and changed the lives of 67 cats!!!
🐾 Mentored kids from local elementary schools, giving them an opportunity for hands-on learning.
🐾 Provided snacks and a safe place to hang out for some of the neighborhood kids wondering around after school. (We fed them and put them to work!)
🐾 Witnessed first-hand the absolute best side of humanity and met so many kind and selfless people
The Scratch Pad wasn’t just about the cats, it came to be a place for connection and community. And although our doors are closing, it doesn’t end here for us. We will continue to help cats and support other local rescue efforts.
