Hi everyone, I just wanted to offer a small seasonal message of comfort to the horse-minded among us.
The winter solstice is nearly here.
The shortest day of the year 🙏
The moment the Earth whispers “you’ve made it” and every horse owner whispers “good, because I am done with trudging across dark fields like some medieval stable goblin.”
People who don’t have horses like to talk about the solstice as a time of candles, reflection, inner peace, all that lovely poetic stuff.
Meanwhile we’re over here trying not to slip in 2 ft of mud while carrying a soggy haynet that somehow weighs more than the actual horse.
But here is the sacred miracle:
After the solstice, the days start getting longer again.
Not noticeably. Not helpfully. Not in any way that improves your life at first.
But scientifically, spiritually, emotionally, we can claim one thing:
We are no longer moving towards darkness.
We are crawling, shivering, half-frozen, but absolutely moving back towards light.
So if you too have been muttering “I did not sign up for this level of damp” while trying to rug a pony in sideways rain, take heart. ❤️
The turning point is coming.🥳
And until then, may your head torch batteries be strong, your mud be shallow, and your horse not choose THIS WEEK to experiment with chaos.
Feel free to tag a friend who is currently living in their waterproof trousers and needs reminding that we’re nearly through the worst of it.
