“We have taken coastlines, forests, wetlands, and grasslands. We have redirected rivers and leveled mountains. And then we wonder why species disappear.”
They are not asking for our homes, our cars, or our money.
They ask for space. A patch of forest. A river that has not been drained. A hillside that has not been cleared. Room to raise their young without sirens, fences, or poison.
We have taken coastlines, forests, wetlands, and grasslands. We have redirected rivers and leveled mountains. And then we wonder why species disappear.
No animal has ever filed a complaint. No wolf has lobbied a government. No elephant has held a press conference. They simply try to survive in whatever is left.
What they need from us is not charity. It is restraint. The willingness to leave something alone. To draw a line and mean it.
They were here before us. In many cases, they will outlast us. The least we can offer is a little space while we share the same planet.
Let them live. Let them stay. Let them have peace.
