Recently I moved my group of Uroplatus ebenaui females to my large Madagascar biotope. The enclosure is 2x2x4’, so playing hide and seek with these ladies is a fun nighttime activity.

A juvenile Fringed Leaf Frog (Cruziohyla craspedopus) that is part of a group I’ve been growing up. Froglets of this species seem to be more difficult to establish, especially if shipped young, but I’ve tried a few unconventional things with this group, and they have responded very well. All are eating and growing nicely.

Our male banded form of taeniata has almost gotten tong feeding down. All of our Abronia are fed home grown insects that are raised on a high carotenoid diet and feeders are also regularly dusted in supplement mixtures high in carotenoids. I believe this is one of the major factors in promoting natural color in captive individuals.

The first clutch of spengleri for the year have hatched and are starting on feeding trials. I’ve changed things up slightly this year on how I start them. In the past, I have always offered floating pellet food first on the recommendation of some old school spengleri keepers. The idea was the floating food would still move around and catch attention but wouldn’t move so much to scare the hatchling.

This year, I went straight to worms, and the response has been tremendous. These babies hatched two weeks ago, and one hatchling has already had 4 meals and the other, 3. I am also keeping them at warmer temps than in the past with 77-78 max days and 75 min nights. I’m not sure if one or both of the changes is responsible, but I’ll likely keep doing both.

It’s the warm season in the h**p room, and that has these Shinisaurus ravenously going after food. Mine can be fairly sleepy through part of the year, but in pea warmth, they come out in full force.
