I can’t believe how many of these red flags I’ve seen on popular dog trainer’s websites and social media posts. There’s so much misinformation out there! Yes, red flag trainers pedaling misinformation are board members, “expert” consultants, even celebrities. Be careful out there!

Look, fireworks and dogs generally don’t mix and it’s one of the most common sound sensitivities! Personally, I’m not enthused by the sky fire. BUT it’s inevitable every year so get your pup prepped!

If you’re planning to medicate your dog and then go out this 4th, confirm with your vet it’s okay for your dog to be alone. I’m not a vet and you never know what may happen so it’s best to double check.

And for the love of dogs everywhere, it’s okay to comfort your dog when they’re scared! If someone said you’re “rewarding” their anxious behavior, then THEY’RE WRONG. When a toddler runs behind our legs or asks to be picked up when they’re scared, we don’t worry about rewarding their fear! If anything, you reinforce their belief that you’re safe and trustworthy. From the canine point of view, there’s plenty to be scared of!
