Aksum Abyssinians

Aksum Abyssinians We have shown and bred cats since 1983, off an on, mostly off with cats just as pets while raising two boys. If we take them to you within the continental U.S.

TICA hobby show breeder of the traditional four colors of Ruddy, Blue, Cinnamon, Fawn, plus the rare Chocolate and Lilac Abyssinians who have been bred for 55 years in the UK, where the Abyssinian breed originated We have worked with seven breeds of cats over the years, showing three of them (Siamese in CFA, Bengal in TICA, and Abyssinian in TICA and CFA). During that time we have also helped loca

l humane societies and shelters adopt out their pets, care for them, and have given four of them a home here over the years. We rescue, foster, and adopt out purebred (and sometimes mix) Abyssinians in the Southeast area of the U.S. as well as help local humane societies and shelters. I've been fascinated with Abyssinians since I first saw them in 1985 at a CFA show where I was championing my first show cat, a lilac point Siamese. We now breed and show Abyssinian cats in north Georgia, USA. We will send our Abyssinian kittens to you domestically in the cabin of an airplane, accompanied by a professional transporter or by us. you only pay transport costs. Aksum is a TICA registered cattery name and we have signed and abide by the TICA Code of Ethics. We show in TICA and CFA (Advance Abyssinians is our CFA cattery name). We have a separate line of Abys that is double registered and shown in CFA and TICA. We offer a health guarantee against all major and genetic diseases (including FeLv, FIP, T. foetus, ringworm, PRA, and PKDef) in our written contract. We raise our kittens in our bedroom and the kittens are integrated with the adult cats that sleep with us in our bedroom after they are vaccinated. Aksum Abyssinians started in 2007 by showing regularly in TICA and carefully choosing only the best Abys that have the conformation and characteristics we are looking for as our foundation cats. We mentor new breeders. The name Aksum comes from the ancient name of Ethiopia, known in the 1800s as Abyssinia, and the alleged source of the first Abyssinian cat imported into England in the 1800s from the Abyssinian War. The ancient city of Aksum still exists in Ethiopia.

We're looking forward to having a male here next week. We have missed having kittens so much! He's proven, and is ruddy carrying cinnamon and dilute. He's Jaxx's great-grandson and is a Supreme Grand Champion. What's not to like?

For the second time, we had a visitor here to see if Abyssinians really do have less of an allergic response than most other cats. Both visitors, years apart, had much less allergies to my Abys than they had with other cats. The young gentleman that visited us years ago stayed two hours and only had a pink place on his cheek where an Aby had licked him. The young lady yesterday only had a few sniffles and said her allergies were always a lot more than for other cats she had been in contact with. She came here with no antihistamines, on purpose. She stayed three hours and played with and pet the three girls, and met the other two and petted them too.

People are allergic to Abys. No normal cat breed that I know of has no allergens. But the allergies are MUCH less than for other cats. Abys also shed about the same in spring and fall like other cats, too.

Why? Because Abys have less of the protein that causes the allergies in their saliva. No, people are generally not allergic to cat hair. Cats groom themselves often, and transfer their saliva to their hair, and that is what people are allergic to. Again, Abys have a lot less of the protein that causes allergies, not none. But it is significant enough that people who are very allergic to cats can have a nice cat if they want one.

We have the professional photos of our new queen Lucky taken by the talented Larry Johnson Photography. Which ones are your favorites?
Lucky will have kittens this fall when she is old enough. She can have all four traditional colors because her mother is a fawn. She is from Viktor Sharavin in the Ukraine. Can't wait! ❤️

I have decided to start a Patreon account for mentoring cat breeders, with a few articles about rescuing cats (because I feel strongly that breeders should also rescue, or donate to rescues regularly). There will be many free articles and podcasts, but the detailed ones will be available for $5/month. If you're interested, here's the link:
