**A Letter From Georgia Rat Rescue**
For nearly 10 years, Georgia Rat Rescue has been here when there was nowhere else to turn.
We've answered late-night messages from people facing eviction. We've taken in unexpected litters. We've helped families through medical crises, moves, job losses, and life changes. We've welcomed rats whose owners passed away, rats abandoned outside, rats surrendered through no fault of their own, and rats who simply needed a second chance.
Over the years, we've helped hundreds upon hundreds of rats find safety, care, and loving homes.
Today, we find ourselves at a crossroads.
The need has grown dramatically.
This year alone, surrender requests have increased at a rate we've never seen before. More litters. More emergency situations. More families facing difficult decisions. More rats needing help.
The problem is that while the need has grown, our resources have not.
We are still operating at roughly the same capacity we were three or four years ago, despite seeing significantly more requests for assistance. The math simply doesn't work.
As one of the only dedicated rat rescues serving Georgia and much of the Southeast, we often become the final safety net—not just for owners, but for the rats themselves.
So today, we're asking for help.
Not because we're giving up.
Not because we're closing our doors.
But because we want to keep saying "yes" when the next emergency arrives.
We need:
🐀 **Adopters** — especially those willing to consider rats who may not be "perfect." Seniors, special-needs cases, shy rats, bonded groups, and those who simply need someone willing to see their potential.
🏠 **Fosters** — whether you're an experienced rat owner or someone curious about getting involved for the first time. Fostering is one of the most direct ways to save lives, and we provide support every step of the way.
🤝 **Volunteers** — there are many ways to help beyond fostering and adoption.
🛒 **Supplies** — food, enrichment items, cleaning supplies, and other care essentials.
🏡 **Cages** — especially Critter Nation cages and other quality setups that can help us house incoming rats safely.
💜 **Donations** — veterinary care, transportation, supplies, and daily operations all add up quickly.
And perhaps most importantly:
📢 **Help us spread the word.**
Like our posts. Comment on them. Share them. Tell people about what we do. Every adoption, foster application, volunteer inquiry, and donation starts with someone learning that we exist.
This rescue has never been about a building. It's never been about a handful of volunteers. It's always been about a community of people who believe that these small animals deserve compassion, respect, and a chance.
The rats are still coming.
The question is whether we'll have the resources to keep opening the door.
