Life lessons from living with Australian Labradoodles. A tired body isn’t always a fulfilled mind. How did we learn this lesson?

Sometimes families come to us feeling frustrated because their dog is being a little too creative at home... chewing, digging, or getting into things they shouldn’t. When we ask about their routine, they’re often doing a great job with physical exercise. But Australian Labradoodles are incredibly intelligent, and physical activity alone doesn’t always meet their needs. Once mental stimulation—training games, problem-solving, or learning something new—is added in, everything starts to click.

We’ve found the same is true for us, too. A full day isn’t just about staying busy. It’s about staying engaged.

1. You would rather get any dog now, instead of waiting to get the right dog later.
2. You’re picking a breed, not a temperament. Once you pick the breed, you want to find a temperament that is specifically bred to balance drives for the lifestyle you want.
3. You aren’t considering the relationship with the breeder important. Many people forget that the breeder they choose can be a huge asset as part of their support team for the life of the dog.

Do you believe this? So much of the world is fast paced these days. There’s so much pressure to do things faster. But you can’t do that with dogs. We love how dogs go at their own pace and live in the moment.
Even though we constantly wish the dogs would sniff just one less thing on our daily walks and move just a little faster, they’ve also helped me notice so many things we would normally have sped right past - like the first daffodils of spring, a particularly prickly pinecone, or a worm slithering its way back into the dirt. Our hope is that our puppies will give you the same opportunity to slow down and notice all the beauty in the mundane.
