Did you know that we have a native plant garden at Ansley Animal Clinic? Last fall, receptionists Russell and Rebecca laid the groundwork and planted seeds for a small patch of native prairie to attract and support local pollinators.

This Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta) attracted a striking, shiny Green Sweat Bee.

Wingstem (Verbesina alternifolia), a visually interesting, tall wildflower, is named for the leaf tissue that fans out from the stem, creating "wings." They attract a wide variety of butterflies and bees!

Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata) is a bushy, easy to grow legume native to the eastern US. The numerous yellow blooms attract so many bees, you can hear the loud buzzing from a few feet away. 🐝

False Aster (Boltonia asteroides) with a little sprinkling of morning dew πŸ’§

Common Evening-primrose (Oenothera biennis) can grow up to 6 feet tall, and their yellow flowers open at night and close during the day.

While these plants may not be as dramatic and showy as typical ornamental garden plants, we have already noticed an incredible impact. We've seen a greater variety of insect life, and in response, more native songbird activity!
