Trimming dark or black dog nails can be particularly challenging because the quick is not visible, as in lighter nails. Care must be taken to avoid cutting into the quick, which can cause pain and bleeding. Dogs’ dark nails are more challenging to trim than the lightly coloured ones. By checking the underside of the nail, you should be able to see the lighter fleshy part – the quick.
