Happy International Children’s Day & Global Day of Parents! 💛🐰👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Today, we are celebrating all the "kids" on the farm—even the delightfully fluffy, long-eared ones! 🥕✨

At Atlanta Unearthing Farm and Market, we strive to cultivate a safe, welcoming space where children can explore, learn, and connect deeply with nature. From our vibrant community volunteer days to our shared roots with Edgewood Church, this farm is built on belonging, common ground, and the beautiful diversity of our neighborhood.

Thank you to all the parents, caregivers, and families who bring life to this soil, guide the next generation, and make Unearthing the wonderful community it is today. We love growing together with you! 🌱

Dealing with backyard flooding or dried-out gardens? 💦 Atlanta’s changing climate brings both heavier downpours and longer dry spells. Rain gardens, rain barrels, raised beds, and native plants can help landscapes handle both while supporting local biodiversity. 🐝🌸

These practices are central to our Edible Neighborhood Program! 🌳🍏 Our original farm site is home to a climate-resilient orchard built on these exact methods—part of our deeper mission to strengthen local food security and expand access to fresh food through our tiered, pay-what-you-can model.

Want a taste of what we’re building toward? Stop by our temporary market space on June 6! ❤️🥦

Did you know Georgia is home to an incredible diversity of rocks and minerals? 💎✨Here in the Piedmont region, the crust beneath us contains a rich mix of ancient crystalline rocks, including a metamorphic rock called mica schist. Soil forms on top of this crust as these rocks break down and mix with vital organic matter. 🌱Our ground is a natural mixture of sand, silt, and clay—a healthy, oxygenated base for plant roots—but the fragile schist bedrock directly beneath it has wavy layers that break easily and erode quickly.

Lately, weather extremes have made this foundation highly unstable. This spring's intense drought baked and hardened the clay in our soil, so instead of a deep watering, sudden flash floods are causing massive surface runoff. Because our farm site is currently barren while we actively work to remove lead contamination, we lack the plant roots and ground cover needed to hold the earth together and resist flooding. 🌊

We are facing the double challenge of fixing historical pollution while fighting immediate erosion, but we refuse to let this land wash away. Please consider donating to Unearthing Farm and Market today to help us secure a thriving agricultural base for Atlanta. 🤝❤️ DONATE HERE: https://donorbox.org/ufm

Late May is here, and we are right on the cusp of peach and tomato season! 🌞 From early Rubyprince and sweet Clingstone peaches (whose tree canopies help reduce soil erosion 🌳) to juicy heirloom cherry tomatoes, summer is checking in.

Fun fact: those little yellow beauties in slide 1 are actually golden berries! They look like tiny tomatoes because they're part of the nightshade family. 🌱 Try tossing them into a quick peach and tomato salad with fresh thyme and cheese for summer on a plate. 🥗 Share your favorite way to use peaches or tomatoes below! 👇

What I’m holding is a tiny piece of slag—an industrial byproduct of metal smelting.

At the turn of the 20th century, Atlanta had 11 different foundry operations. The waste they produced was frequently used as cheap "fill dirt" across the city, disproportionately ending up in marginalized neighborhoods.

While the severe health risks of lead weren't widely recognized until the 1970s, the long-term impact is clear. Funneling industrial waste into specific communities is environmental racism, and it laid a toxic foundation we are still dealing with today.

Right now, Unearthing Farm and Market is facing lead in our soil—a direct result of this history. We are dealing with the consequences of a century-old mess, but we absolutely refuse to pass those consequences on to our children and grandchildren.

We are doing the hard work to remediate the land, but we need your help. Click on the link below to donate and help us rebuild a safe, thriving space for our community. 🌱✊🏾

✨🌱A huge thank you to our incredible community! 🌱✨

We loved seeing so many of you yesterday at our Unearthing Farm and Market booth during the Kirkwood Spring Fling. It was wonderful connecting with neighbors and sharing our ongoing passion for equitable, community-led food systems.

A special shoutout to our neighbor, Paxton, who won our fresh produce basket raffle! 🧺 We had so much fun delivering it to you today—we hope you enjoy all the fresh goodies!

As many of you know, our site is currently undergoing an extensive soil remediation project. We are working hard to restore the grounds and get our farm fully up and running again, but we are still raising funds to support the physical rebuild of the farm.

If you'd like to help us continue our mission and restore this space for the neighborhood, please consider making a donation today. Every little bit helps us grow stronger together! 🌻💚

Meet the Unearth Farm Chief Recycling Officers! 🐐📦

We try to be sustainable around here, but these guys take "reducing our paper trail" to a whole new level. To us, it’s a cardboard box. To them, it’s a TEAR-IFIC five-star meal. 🧑‍🍳
While this "high fiber" diet is undeniably their favorite treat, it turns out you can't actually power a farm animal on shipping boxes and old homework alone. 🤷‍♂️ Who knew? We still have to buy them the boring stuff... like actual, nutritious goat feed.

Want to help us buy the real food and save our mail from certain doom? Hit the LINK IN OUR BIO TO DONATE Every little bit helps keep these BAAAA-D kids full, happy, and (mostly) out of the office supplies. 🌾💚

This Mother’s Day, we’re honoring the ultimate caregiver: Mother Earth. 🌍💚

Just like any mother, the land sometimes needs our nurturing, protection, and care to truly thrive. As we continue our Unearthing Unleaded journey to heal our soil and restore our community farm, we’re reminded of the powerful, resilient cycle of growth and renewal.

Today, we celebrate everyone who is putting in the hard work to nurture life, heal the land, and care for their communities. Happy Mother's Day! 🌱✨
