Reactive does NOT automatically mean aggressive. ❤️ Dogs can become reactive from fear, trauma, stress, overstimulation, or simply not knowing how to cope.
Chubbs has been through so much and deserves the chance to decompress, learn, and be understood. Tuffy was once insanely reactive and is now everyone’s best friend. That will not be every dog’s story, but it shows how much time, patience, training, love, and understanding can matter.

Meet Chubs, our adorable 2-year-old English Bulldog with a BIG personality and so much love to give. ❤️
Chubs is an absolutely amazing dog with the people he knows and trusts. He is loving, goofy, affectionate, fully potty trained, and does fantastic in a crate. He is the kind of dog who could become someone's absolute best friend and constant companion.
But Chubs needs a home that understands ALL of him, so we want to be completely transparent about what we have learned.
⚠️ CHUBS IS REACTIVE IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS.
We have seen Chubs become reactive during veterinary handling and examinations, particularly when someone he doesn't know is restraining him or getting into his personal space. When uncomfortable, Chubs can and will attempt to bite.
The biggest concern is that he may give little to no obvious warning beforehand, so his future owner cannot rely on growling or other typical warning signals to know when he has reached his limit.
This does NOT mean Chubs walks around trying to attack people. Quite the opposite!
With people he knows, he has been absolutely wonderful, even people he doednt know. ❤️ He may even meet you and immediately decide you're his new best friend! Most of the time, he's a happy, sweet little bulldog.
But his adopter MUST understand that unfamiliar people getting into his space, hands-on veterinary care, restraint, or other stressful situations could trigger a reaction.
Because of this:
🏡 Chubs needs a quiet, experienced home.
🚫 NO children under 16. We strongly prefer an adult-only household.
🚪 A home without lots of unfamiliar visitors constantly coming and going.
🐾 Someone experienced with Bulldogs and comfortable managing a dog with reactivity.
🩺 His adopter MUST understand that some veterinary procedures/exams may require pre-visit medication, sedation, or other handling precautions determined by their veterinarian.
❤️ Someone willing to advocate for Chubs instead of putting him into situations where he could fail.
We are currently unsure about other animals because Chubs has contagious kennel cough, so we cannot safely do close, one-on-one introductions yet.
HOWEVER... 👀
Chubs has walked past multiple dogs without reacting.
🐶 He has passed dogs calmly.
🐱 He has walked past cats without reacting.
🐔 He has even walked past chickens without reacting!
So we are NOT automatically ruling out a home with another dog. Any resident dog would need an appropriate meet-and-greet once Chubs is medically cleared.
His dream home might be a single man or woman, a couple, or another adult-only household looking for a loyal companion. Somewhere relatively quiet where his person understands him, respects his boundaries, and doesn't expect him to be a social butterfly with every stranger who walks through the door.

That means you can come meet Chubs, submit an adoption application, and, if approved, complete his adoption. However, Chubs will NOT go home until his cherry-eye surgery and neuter are completed and he is medically cleared.

We ARE going to be selective about Chubs' adopter.
Not because he's a bad dog.
Not because we don't want him adopted.
But because the RIGHT home matters more than the FASTEST home.
Chubs needs someone who looks at him and says:
"I understand you. I understand your boundaries. And I'm willing to give you the life you deserve." ❤️
In the wrong environment, Chubs could struggle.
In the right environment, we truly believe this little Bulldog will THRIVE. 🐾❤️
