Please consider helping this group! This is one of the organizations we regularly help and contribute to. When you have your pet taken care of by us, you are also helping other pets in the county who may need a paw up.

We want every outdoor pet in Athens and Limestone County to stay safe year-round. Here are five practical, evidence-based tips we use in our outreach: 1) Shelter setup: place a raised, wind‑blocked shelter with a sloped roof to keep rain and drafts out. 2) Bedding choices: use straw or cedar shavings—not blankets—for insulation and dryness. 3) Hydration: check water twice daily; use heated bowls in winter or shade and cool water in summer. 4) Simple wound checks: look for swelling, discharge, or limping; clean minor cuts with mild antiseptic and monitor for infection. 5) When to seek help: if an animal is lethargic, has trouble breathing, shows severe bleeding, or won’t eat for 24 hours, contact a vet or reach out to our team. We provide low‑cost guidance and resources for seniors and low‑income owners—reach out if you need support. Learn more and find resources at https://wix.to/X9BG68A 📞🐾🌤️

Why Some Dogs Hesitate at the Groomer

Some dogs run right through the door.
Some walk in slow.
And some hit the brakes like, “nope, not today.”

If your dog hesitates, it doesn’t mean anyone hurt them or that the groomer isn’t good to them. A lot of dogs just don’t love the process of grooming, even when the person doing it is gentle and patient.

Grooming comes with:

• New smells
• Loud sounds
• Being away from their person
• Standing still
• Dryers, clippers, brushing

It’s a lot of sensory stuff happening all at once, and some dogs are just more sensitive than others. Some had a stressful experience somewhere else. Some just don’t like the “walking through the door” moment, even though they settle once we get started.

Your dog doesn’t have to love grooming to be treated with love during grooming.
My job is to make the whole thing as calm, safe, and predictable as possible and that’s exactly what I focus on every day. There is no timeframe in which that happens. Patience, compassion and safe handling take as long as it takes. The goal is a happy, confident and settled system. Everyone leaves content at the end of the day. 🐾 💕

Side note:
If you ever truly suspect animal neglect or mishandling anywhere not just grooming, It’s important to document what you observed and report it to the appropriate local animal welfare authority so they can look into it. You don’t have to prove anything yourself; reporting simply ensures the right people can check on the situation.

This is a critical issue within the grooming industry. With the influx of so many people opening grooming businesses with zero experience or knowledge of the trade at all, these are the things that can and are happening.
Please please PLEASE know who you are entrusting your pets care with!
The grooming industry has no oversight and no regulations… that means anyone, a car salesman, auctioneer, burger flipper, factory worker, etc. can decide to work with live animals and sharp tools and not know a thing about how to do it safely, humanely, or professionally. Torturing dogs with hours of dematting, rough handling trying to meet some unrealistic time expectation, flooding the dog with brutal techniques, causing secondary damage through misuse of products, chemicals, dirty equipment. It is vehemently dangerous to allow someone to ‘learn to groom’ on your pet for 1/2 price with no guidance or supervision. It is careless to support people who treat a serious profession as a side gig or paid hobby, deceiving the public with high dollar equipment that they can’t operate properly, stating they are driven by the desire to provide the kind of care they expect. That’s fine if you’re washing a car or selling used trinkets, but not so much for the integrity of pet care as a whole.
It is time to educate the public about the truth of pet care, the people providing it, and how to avoid ending up in a traumatic situation with your pet.

This is so exciting! I am loving the fact that they take appointments! Best of wishes to Dr. Cornelius! 🐾 💕

This is Alabama… where you can starve a dog and dump it like trash with little to no fear of legal consequences. Meanwhile, rescues and groomers are the ones stepping in late at night, spending their own money, making nothing in return except the hope of saving a life. 🥹🖤
