Introducing Canine Genetics & Breeding Science by Oak Creek K9.
An in-depth educational resource exploring the science behind canine genetics, DNA inheritance, reproduction, epigenetics, selective breeding, and the development of working dogs.
At Oak Creek K9, we believe successful breeding begins with understanding the genetic makeup of the dogs within our program. By studying DNA, hereditary traits, genetic diversity, and the relationship between genotype and phenotype, we can make more informed breeding decisions.
We strive to understand not only what traits a dog possesses, but why those traits exist, how they’re inherited, and how they may be expressed in future generations.
We apply this knowledge throughout our breeding program to evaluate genetic compatibility, preserve desirable working characteristics, reduce hereditary health risks, and make purposeful selections that support long-term improvements in structure, temperament, drive, stability, and performance.
This book takes a deeper look into the science that influences our approach to breeding and the importance of understanding genetics beyond what can be observed physically.
Responsible breeding isn’t simply about producing dogs with desirable traits. It’s about understanding the genetics behind those traits and making informed decisions for generations to come.
