This is Puppers, also known as "the floodwall dog".

He had been posted several times in local facebook groups as a stray dog living around the train tracks.

River Cities Kitties couldnt let him stay a stray dog living by the floodwall 🥺 so the plan was to catch him and get him to safety.

Of course, he didnt initially think that was a good plan and required quite a bit of convincing. He wasnt going to just trust anyone and he definitely wasnt going willingly into a live trap.

But Sara Wellman with River Cities Kitties was gonna prove to him the rescued life was a good life and that there are kind people and it doesnr have to be a lonely world.

She went almost daily for two months. Sometimes not seeing him at all. Sometimes catching a glimpse of him in the distance. The hardest times were those stretches of days when he would have seemed to disappear and that sinking feeling would creep in...a hopeless feeling....maybe something happened to him?

Then he would pop back up on the trail cam and hope would be restored.

The long game paid off and late yesterday evening , exactly two months after rescue efforts started, Puppers was SAFE!

but we know rescue doesnt end when the animal is safe. It is actually when one of the most important parts of rescue begins- MAKING SURE HE IS HEALTHY 🐾

Puppers needs to go see the vet. He needs all the basic vetting- the testing, the preventatives , treatments if required, and -OF COURSE -neutering!!

River Cities Kitties will be set up for Pets on Parade! Stop by and see what we're all about, grab a surprise for the kids, and introduce us to your cutest pets. 💚💙 We can't wait to see you there!

Get ready for "Pets on Parade" September 4th at First Friday in downtown Ashland. Dress your pet in their favorite outfit, strut across the stage, and show off their personality (or yours!). Registration begins at 4:30pm on Broadway Square and the pageant starts at 6pm. At 7pm, all the cuteness will parade down Wi******er Avenue. This is a free event, and everyone is welcome to participate.

Join the fun! Visit with local rescues. Enter the raffle for prizes. City of Ashland Parks and Recreation is providing free face painting and Peanuts the Clown will make an appearance. After the parade, stay and listen to Charlie Robot on the square! Free parking is available in the City parking garage off of 17th Street.

We ask everyone to be considerate to others and follow some rules:

All animals must be on leash.
Animals must have current rabies vaccine.
Keep all animals off the war memorial lawns.
All animals are the responsibility of the owner-including clean up.

What's on our mind?
Supplies.
Traps.
We REALLY need more traps. And new traps.
Some of our current traps have seen better days -and a few too many raccoons 🦝.

The more traps we have the more cats we can catch during one TNR outing. The more cats we can catch at one time the faster we can help reduce the stray/feral cat population.

Judging by our inbox, we know you all would want that too!

We appreciate all the cats. The black cats 🖤, the white cats 🤍, the orange cats🧡, the striped, the young, the old.

Gravy here ran into the best kind of people this day....animal rescue people. He was caught, and vetted,and moved on to brighter days.

🐾 WE DID IT!!🐾

Today, with YOUR help, we were able to spay/neuter 11 kitties. That's 11 more kitties that wont contribute to the overpopulation crisis. THANK YOU!

The need at times feels overwhelming but doing something is always better than doing nothing and each day we strive to do a little more.

Here's some of the cuties that were able to get fixed today because of you 🥰

Now, time to plan for the next round of surgeries
