✨Feel Good Friday ✨

This week, Scamp had a too-close-for-comfort encounter with a copperhead! His owners rushed him to Chenault, where Dr. Chenault treated his snake bite.

At first, we thought Scamp had lost the battle… but then his owners found the dead snake! So, was it a Scamp WIN or a DRAW?

Just 48 hours later, Scamp was back to playing and being his usual stud-like self!

🐍 A few things to remember:
• Snake bites can be a veterinary emergency. Don’t wait for symptoms to worsen. Head to us right away!
• Keep your pet calm on the way
• If safe, take a photo of the snake, but never try to catch it
• Don’t cut the wound, suck out venom, apply ice, or use a tourniquet.

Through it all, Scamp’s tail never stopped wagging. He even tried to sneak in a thank-you kiss to Dr. Chenault🐾❤️

✨Feel Good Friday ✨

Leia came to us after vomiting and having diarrhea. She had already been seen at the ER, and our next step was putting together the clues from her history, physical exam, and diagnostics to figure out what was going on.

One of those diagnostics was a Catalyst Pancreatic Lipase test. This blood test measures a pancreatic-specific enzyme that can increase when the pancreas is inflamed, helping us determine if pancreatitis may be the culprit.

Of course, the test is just one piece of the puzzle! A thorough physical exam and the patient’s history are incredibly important in making the diagnosis.

Once Leia was diagnosed, we provided supportive treatment to help her pancreas recover. And she’s doing great! She’s eating, drinking, keeping her food down, and no more vomiting!

We loved seeing Leia back to her bright, happy, and normal self this week!

Some days really test a team…and today was one of them.

Our appointment book was completely booked—and then we fit in even more appointments. Despite a few callouts leaving us with just one support staff member paired with each doctor, this amazing team kept things moving and made sure every single pet got seen and cared for.

Morgan, LVT, ran appointments downstairs with Dr. Rosen. She also ran all the tech appointments.
Heather, LVT, ran surgeries and drop-offs upstairs with Dr. Chenault.
And Haley, Receptionist, bounced around the entire hospital helping with anything and everything wherever she was needed.

Our clients were incredibly patient and understanding, and we are so grateful for that. ❤️

It may be almost 8 PM, but we made it. And I truly couldn’t be more proud of these ladies. Fitting in extra appointments on an already packed schedule wouldn’t have been possible without their hard work, teamwork, and willingness to jump in wherever they were needed.

Couldn’t be more blessed to have this crew!

✨ Feel Good Friday ✨

Sadie decided chocolate chips looked like a tasty snack, and shortly afterward, her stomach let her know that was a bad idea.

Luckily, Sadie only needed some fluids, an anti-nausea injection, and some love from Dr. Kellar. Her bloodwork looked great! Mom reports she is back to her normal self.

🍫 Fun fact: If your dog eats chocolate, take a picture of the package before heading to the vet! The type of chocolate and amount eaten help our veterinary team determine the level of risk and the best treatment.

Chocolate can toxic to dogs. We are so happy this was not the case for sweet, Miss Sadie!

🎓More Chenault graduates! 🐾

Congratulations to Bailey (9 months) and Hammy (aka The Great Hambino, 4 months) on completing their puppy vaccine series today!

Behind the scenes, these graduation photos are a team effort! The hardest part? Convincing puppies to keep their caps on long enough for a picture. Luckily, Bailey was more than happy to cooperate… as long as the treats kept coming!

Hammy is actually from the same litter we featured last week! We absolutely love getting to watch littermates grow up with different families while seeing each of their unique personalities blossom.

At Chenault, every puppy and kitten deserves a graduation photo when they complete their vaccine series, no matter their age! 💙

✨ Feel Good Friday! ✨

Meet Lily, a lovable 125-pound Great Dane who underwent a splenectomy with Dr. Chenault last week after a large mass was discovered on her spleen.

The spleen helps filter blood and supports the immune system, but when it becomes diseased or develops a mass, it can be safely removed. The good news? Dogs can live long, happy, healthy lives without a spleen.

Today, Lily came in for her one-week recheck, and we were thrilled to share the best news possible… the mass was BENIGN! Even better, she’s healing beautifully and feeling great.

As for the video, it was taken the morning of Lily’s surgery. We think she had already decided she was ready to get the whole surgery thing over with so she could get back to her favorite hobby….planning her next escape!

Congratulations to Lily and her family on such wonderful news! ❤️🐾

🌞Two-sday Smiles🌞

The Rule of Two:
Eat the sock.
Throw up the sock.
Eat the sock… again.
Throw up the sock… again.

Meet Onix.

After swallowing a sock at home, Onix vomited it up, then promptly ate the very same sock a second time before his family could grab it.

Round two brought him to Chenault, where we safely induced vomiting and recovered the sock once again. This time, it stayed out!

While this story gave us all a laugh, foreign body ingestions can become serious very quickly. Socks and other fabric items can cause intestinal blockages that often require emergency surgery.

The moral of the story? If your pet swallows something they shouldn’t, don’t assume the problem is over even if they throw it up. And if they have a chance to eat it again…well, let’s just say some dogs don’t learn from their mistakes.

Thankfully, Onix is back home, sock-free, feeling great, and hopefully sticking to dog toys instead of laundry! 🐾
