Cedar Valley Canine, formerly Cedar Valley Kennel, is owned and operated by Dave Taylor. Dave's dog training career spans over 35 years and extends into many facets of the canine industry. As an owner, trainer, breeder and importer, his education in working dogs has continued to grow with the handling of each new puppy. Dave remains actively involved in cutting edge breeding programs, puppy develo

pment, customized training for families - including estate protection dogs - competition and sport dogs, as well as police, military and government service dogs. In addition to his own experience, Dave networks globally with the most knowledgeable trainers and breeders of our time. This enables him not only to constantly improve his training skills, but also to locate any type of canine for a specific placement. Cedar Valley Canine is located on 80 beautiful acres bordering the Cumberland River in Cheatham County, Tennessee. We are located close to major interstates and only 30 minutes from the Nashville International Airport.

Diamond Dave just made the boldest business strategy announcement of 2026: he’s showing up in a pink shirt and pink tutu. Who wants to send him some tights?

Qualities of a good detection dog. 🐕 🐾

What makes a great detection dog? It starts early. We’re looking for strong possession of the ball, steady nerves in unfamiliar environments, and the natural hunt drive to search with purpose. These traits are the foundation for building a reliable, driven detection partner.

🐾 How Not to Teach Your Dog to Bite Someone (E-Collar Mistakes to Avoid)

Misusing an e-collar can absolutely backfire and create the exact behavior you’re trying to prevent.

⚠️ The Biggest Mistake

Using stimulation without teaching the dog what it means first.

To a dog, random stimulation doesn’t equal “don’t do that.”
It can mean:
• “That person caused this”
• “I need to defend myself”
• “Something bad happens when I’m in this room”

🧠 Dogs Learn Through Clarity, Not Punishment

Before an e-collar is ever used for correction, the dog should:
• Fully understand basic commands (like “come,” “heel,” “leave it”)
• Be trained using low-level stimulation as communication, not punishment
• Know how to turn the pressure off by making the right choice

👉 The collar should feel like a tap on the shoulder, not a shock out of nowhere
