Dove release is never acceptable and often fatal.

What good does releasing them really do?
Some domesticated birds are bred in captivity for profit, then released during weddings, ceremonies, or traditions because it looks beautiful or symbolizes freedom.
But what happens after the celebration ends?
They may not know how to survive. They may struggle to find food, avoid predators, or understand the dangers of the wild. And if they do manage to survive and multiply, they can later be labeled as “pests” and blamed for simply trying to live.
We create them. We release them. Then we blame them.
All for something that was never their choice.
Tradition should never come at the cost of another life. Animals are not props, symbols, or disposable decorations for our celebrations.

Before we release a bird, ask yourself:
“Am I giving this animal freedom or am I simply giving myself a moment to feel good?”
We can do better.
We can choose compassion over tradition.
We can stop creating problems for animals and then punishing them for surviving.
Be better. Do better.

Filing our latest results on Anticoagulant Rodenticide Panels for 11 specimens. As I log them, my heart breaks again, for each case number was a bird I personally tried to save.

Cats don't just catch mice and rats. These are the faces of cat attacks. All of these animals were patients admitted to our Center after being caught by cats in just one week. Over the past decade, we've admitted more than 4,000 patients due to cat attacks, and only about 8% made it to release.

Wild animals caught by cats have a very low chance of survival, even with immediate veterinary care. Their injuries are often severe, and even small puncture wounds can become fatal because of the bacteria in a cat's mouth. Without treatment, the chances of survival are nearly zero.

We don't hate cats - we love them, and many of our staff members have cats at home! But we do hate the devastating impact free-roaming cats have on wildlife. Keeping cats indoors is the only way to prevent these injuries and keep wildlife safe, and it's safer for cats too! Indoor cats live longer and healthier lives compared to their free-roaming counterparts.

If you own an outdoor cat, please consider transitioning it indoors and encouraging others to do the same. We offer helpful resources on our website to support this transition. And for cats who struggle with life indoors, an outdoor “catio” can give them safe access to the outdoors without harming wildlife.

Our guided public tours are approximately 45 minutes in length and are offered on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM by appointment only. Tours are free of charge.

This is a guided educational experience that offers an inside look at our sanctuary and the important work we do. During the tour, you will learn about our organization's mission, meet the animals in our care, and discover the challenges facing exotic and displaced wildlife, as well as the role sanctuaries play in their protection and well-being.
