EXCITING NEWS! Open Door Veterinary Care will be hosting our THIRD Express Wellness Clinic on July 10th from 1-5pm! 🐾💙🐾

Express *healthy* exams as well as vaccines, heartworm tests, feline triple tests, microchips, and preventatives(prices included below). If there are any health concerns on exam, we will let you know and ask that you schedule a separate sick pet appointment on another day. To schedule an Express Wellness exam or to ask about pricing, give us a call at 828-417-7768.

There are a limited number of spots available so sign up fast to reserve yours! Depending on scheduling, we may have a few walk–in appointments available the day of the event and we will post about them if this is the case.

This event is meant to be a low cost vaccine clinic to support our community members who need more accessible vaccine prices.

The day is here: our second Express Wellness Clinic! 🐾 If you’re wondering how it works…we’re here to help!

- First you’ll check in with one of our front desk and be shown to a room. 🐶🐱
- Before arriving we will have sent you a digital form with service options to select(such as vaccines, microchip, or a heartworm/feline triple test). If you haven’t filled that out, no worries, we also have a laminated version available in room! 📝
- The team will then come in and complete the exam and any additional services needed. If our doctors notice anything abnormal on the exam this will be noted on the form and a follow-up visit will be recommended. Express Wellness visits are designed for healthy exams and preventative care. 💙

- You’ll then get any needed flea/tick/heartworm preventatives and/or rabies certificate. 💊

- Finally, you’ll check out and turn in the laminated sheet so we can schedule any follow up visits as needed! 🩺

Meet Stella! Stella is a 5 year old corgi who came to Open Door for heartworm treatment. 🐶 Heartworms are a parasite that live in the heart and are transmitted through the bite of a mosquito. Since heartworm can be life threatening, it is recommended that any dog who tests positive for heartworm be treated. As you can see, Stella doesn’t mind staying with us during the day for her treatments!! 💙 Yearly heartworm testing can catch this parasite promptly and heartworm prevention helps us prevent it. Flowers are blooming, the weather is warmer and spring has officially sprung... but so have fleas, ticks and mosquitos! 🌸🌼🌸 Flea, tick and heartworm prevention is especially important as the weather changes but ticks, fleas, and mosquitos can even live through our mild winters. These parasites can even transmit diseases, with ticks being the most concerning since they can transmit many bacterial diseases such as lyme, ehrlichia, and anaplasmosis...which can even be deadly for your pet!! By having our pets on year round prevention we can ensure that they're not at risk for these diseases. In the long run, prevention is much more cost effective than treatment! Since we understand that budgets can be tight we offer payment plans and rebates to help you save on prevention(our current rebates for Bravecto include buy two 3-month Bravecto get $20 off, buy four and get $45 off, or if you have a puppy under 6 months old you can get $10 off a 1-month Bravecto). Our online pharmacy also offers a wide array of flea, tick, and heartworm preventions to meet all budgets and we carry Bravecto (1 month or 3 month available; prevents against fleas and ticks) and Selamectin(protects against fleas, ear mites, heartworms, and some intestinal worms) and Milbegard(protects against heartworm and some intestinal parasites) in house. Meet Biscuit!! Just like biscuits are famous in the south, Biscuit is famous at Open Door! 💙🐾💙 He first came to us on October 27th for his puppy vaccines…but something wasn’t right. One of our astute veterinary assistants, Molly, noticed Biscuit wasn’t the excited puppy we’d expected. Since Dr. Willow knew this was a red flag for a puppy, a parvovirus test was run…and came back positive. A spectrum of care options were presented to Biscuit’s dad and a plan was chosen. The Monoclonal Parvovirus antibodies and supportive care was provided and he was referred to our friends at VEG for overnight care. Due to the team’s quick response Biscuit had recovered within a few days and was back to normal puppy life!! Since then he’s been vaccinated for his core puppy vaccines, dewormed and started on flea/tick/heartworm preventatives and just last week underwent a neuter procedure with Dr. Schneider. Without Biscuit’s dad bringing him in for care, Brave Biscuit may not have survived this deadly virus. We love you Biscuit!! 🐶💙
