It is EXTREMELY important that Service dogs have a good temperament as you will have people approach them, touch them without permission, rub up against them, run into them, and so much more. A service dog must be able to handle these interactions without snapping, acting out, or being aggressive.

Because I KNOW someone will say something about it (Looking at you FB) Lets talk about the specific interaction with sgaeyl and the worker. We are lucky and live in an area where people trying to interact with our dogs and petting without asking isnโ€™t rare. so i dont get many opportunities to work around it so yes sgaeyl did struggle some but im proud that she self corrected multiple times and she was trying SO HARD.

lets talk about why you shouldnโ€™t pet a dog while asking.
Like in my friends instance she has a not fully vacced puppy who is socializing and learning about the world we dont know what this worker has touched or been around
the dog could be a unvested service dog like sgaeyl. service dogs do not have to be labeled or vested and sometimes itโ€™s easier to just take them in
the dog could be nervous and is learning confidence in public a stranger petting could set back progress
the dog could just not like being pet ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

now we didnโ€™t say anything to the worker so please dont hate on her so it is partially on us.
