🤍One year ago today, disaster struck Los Angeles in the form of two catastrophic wildfires. The Eaton Fire in Altadena and the Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades forever changed these communities and the people who love them.
🤍Although we no longer live in Los Angeles, we spent many years there working in animal welfare. The animals of LA continue to hold a very special place in our hearts. Our hearts broke for those who lost their life, and for those who were never found. So many amazing heroes in the animal rescue world came together in an extraordinary effort to save lives.🐾
🤍Amidst the many stories of destruction and loss, there were also stories of hope and healing.❤️ One such story involves a brave little house cat named Bergie who survived the Eaton Fire and was reunited with her family 32 days later. A team of artists, many of whom are rebuilding their lives after the fire, have united to create DISASTER CATS, a hybrid documentary-animated film about Bergie’s true story of survival.🐈⬛
🤍The film is not yet completed, but if you’re in the LA area, you can see a work-in-progress at the Ashes to Films Festival on Jan 9 at 3pm. 🎬 The mission of is to bring together filmmakers who lost their homes in the fires.
🤍Today (and all days) we are sending so much love to the people and animals of Los Angeles who were so deeply impacted by the Eaton and Palisades Fires. 💖
It warms our hearts to know that a small group of those folks have united to tell Bergie’s story of hope. We can’t wait to see it, and we wish these filmmakers, and everyone affected by the fires, a continued journey of healing as we start this new year. ✨
