WE ARE RAISING WATCHERS... NOT BUILDERS

For the last 20+ years, we've told our kids that the only path to a good life runs through a college degree.

Borrow the money. Get the credentials. Get the piece of paper. Then the doors will openup for you. And for some people, that is absolutely is the best path.

But somewhere along the way, we started acting like working with your hands, building things, fixing things, creating things, and learning through experience became less valuable.

Meanwhile, the people learning real life trades with their whole body are the ones who are creating opportunities, and who are building something for themselves that many people spend their entire lives chasing.

Their building confidence, independence, character, integrity, and freedom.

Schools are important. They provide a foundation in reading, writing, arithmetic, and specialized knowledge.

But there are some things no classroom can fully teach. Things like: Work ethic. Character. Integrity. Resilience. Leadership. Courage.
The willingness to fail, learn from it, and keep moving forward.

Those lessons are usually learned through experience, responsibility, and example.
And that's where I think we have a problem.

I see kids who don't want to get dirty.
I see kids who are afraid to try new things.
I see kids who would rather scroll than build.
I see kids with little urgency, little curiosity, and very little drive.

The question we should all be asking ourselves is... Where are they learning that from?

This might hurt a little... They're learning it from us.

Why would our kids believe hard work matters if they constantly watch us looking for shortcuts?

Why would they embrace failure if they see us avoiding challenges?

Why would they build something meaningful if they watch us settle for short term comfort?

Our kids are paying attention to far more than we realize.

They're watching how hard we work.
They're watching how we treat people.
They're watching whether we keep our word.
They're watching whether we stand up for what's right when it's unpopular.
They're watching whether we quit when things get difficult.

Credentials tell people what you've studied... Character tells people who you are.

Those have never been the same thing. A degree can open doors, but it cannot replace integrity.
A certificate can prove knowledge, but it cannot prove work ethic. A title can impress people, but it cannot build respect the way character can.

If we want strong kids, we must be strong adults.
If we want independent thinkers, we must think independently. If we want hardworking kids, we must demonstrate hard work. If we want honest kids, we must be honest ourselves.

Because whether we realize it or not... We are the most important teachers our children will ever have. And they're learning far more from what we do than what we say.

Take a look around in your life...

What's one lesson you think today's kids are learning from the adults around them... for better or for worse?

The most important step in building is creating a solid foundation.

When you rush through or skip your foundation work you will never have consistency and you will have alot of frustration.

Build a solid foundation and never quit working on it.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT A HORSE...

One of the greatest lessons horses have ever taught me has nothing to do with riding, training, or winning... It's honesty.

A horse doesn't care about impressing anyone. They don't lie to make themselves look better. They don't create excuses to protect their ego. They don't pretend to know something they don't know.

A horse will tell you exactly where they stand every single day. If you'll slow down and listen, they'll tell you their story.

They'll tell you about their past.
They’ll tell you where they’re hurting.
They’ll tell you where they’re insecure.
They’ll tell you where they need your help.
They'll tell you how much they understand.

The amazing thing is that a horse doesn't gain confidence by pretending. A horse gains confidence through honesty, understanding, and growth.

Maybe that's why so many of us are drawn to them. Because horses are everything we as humans often struggle to be.

They're authentic. They're upfront with us.
They’re real no matter how the world is around them. They're exactly who they are... nothing more and nothing less.

And when you stop trying to be someone you're not, when you show up with honesty instead of ego, a horse will give you everything they have.

Maybe the reason horses change so many lives isn't because we teach them so much...

Maybe it's because they teach us how to become better humans. And they give us an honest friend who will listen when we have no one to open up to.

What's the biggest life lesson a horse has taught you?

Share your answer in the comments. I'd love to hear it. It's also a great way to spread our lessons learned to each other.

THE SAD TRUTH ABOUT PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Before anyone gets upset, let me say this...

There are a lot of incredible teachers in our school systems. Many of them care deeply about our children and work their ass off every day trying to make a difference.

This isn't an attack on teachers. It's a conversation about education.

Public schools do a good job teaching us how to become productive members of society. We need teachers, doctors, nurses, firefighters, mechanics, farmers, store clerks, and countless other professions that keep our communities running.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. But there are some things many of us never learned in school that ended up becoming some of the most important lessons in life.

For example...

How many classes did you take on budgeting, investing, building wealth, avoiding debt, understanding taxes, or making your money work for you?

Most of us were taught how to earn money. Very few of us were taught how to manage it.

How many history classes focused on the lessons we can learn from the successes and failures of those who came before us?

Many of us learned the dates. Far fewer learned how those lessons apply to our lives today.

And that's not just a school problem. That's a parenting problem. That's a community problem. That's a society problem.

Because the truth is... Some of life's most important lessons aren't taught in a classroom.
They're taught at the dinner table. They're taught through experience. They're taught by parents, grandparents, mentors, coaches, business owners, and everyday people willing to share their wisdom.

So instead of simply criticizing the school system, let's ask ourselves:

What are we doing to teach our children what we wish someone had taught us?

Are we teaching them about money?
Are we teaching them about responsibility?
Are we teaching them about critical thinking?
Are we teaching them about history's lessons, not just history's dates?

Because at the end of the day... We are the first and most important teachers our children will ever have.

If we want a brighter future for our youth, it starts at home.

What is one life skill you wish schools had taught you growing up?

NOT EVERYBODY WHO STARTS BESIDE YOU WILL FINISH BESIDE YOU

One thing I’m learning from standing up for what's right is this…

It’s easy for people to support fairness, transparency, and accountability when there’s no pressure attached to it.

It’s easy to speak up when there’s nothing to lose. But the moment relationships, opportunities, politics, future favors, or personal benefit enter the picture… a lot of people suddenly get quiet.

That’s the unfortunate reality of trying to create real change in a community, and the world around us.

I’m not angry at anybody. Everybody has the right to make their own decisions and choose what they believe is best for them.

But I will say this…

If fairness and accountability only matter when they are convenient, then they were never truly principles to those people to begin with.

I’m still standing on the exact same message I started with:
• Equal opportunity
• Open communication
• Transparency
• Accountability
• And a system around us that serves the ENTIRE community fairly… not just a select few.

This was never about personal attacks, drama, or division for me. It has always been about encouraging honest conversations and pushing for positive change that benefits the future of our community.

Real change has never come from silence. And it definitely has never come from people being afraid to speak publicly.

It is a REAL shame that promises and deals are being made behind closed doors just to quieten down people who was once playing a big part in creating a stronger community, but now they have fell victim to the very system that they once was fighting to be fixed.

The sad part is how bad that hurts the future of we have the potential to create for our youth and community.

No matter who stays beside me or who quietly walks away… I’ll continue standing on what I believe is right.

Why aren't we all fired up to do all we can for our youth in this community?

Why do we not use our voices?
