TOXIN MOST PET OWNERS HAVE NEVER HEARD OF❗️
🚨 MORE THAN 110 REPORTED DOG DEATHS. OVER 210 PETS REPORTED SICK. AND A TOXIN MOST PET OWNERS HAVE NEVER HEARD OF.
I WANT YOU TO KNOW THIS! It's called AFLATOXIN. And this is why I tell pet owners that there's so much more to understanding dog food than reading an ingredient label. HERE'S WHAT THE FDA FOUND:
In 2020 - 2021, the FDA investigated commercial pet foods contaminated with dangerous levels of aflatoxin. As of January 21, 2021, the FDA had received reports of more than 110 dog deaths and 210 pet illnesses associated with the affected foods. Not every case was laboratory-confirmed as aflatoxin poisoning.
🤯 NOW, HERE'S WHAT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION.
FDA testing identified aflatoxin levels reaching 558 parts per billion (ppb) in certain Sportmix products. For perspective, the FDA considers levels above 20 ppb in dog and cat food sufficient to support enforcement action because of the potential danger.
That's nearly 28 TIMES that threshold! SO WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?
Aflatoxin is produced by certain molds that can contaminate corn and other agricultural ingredients before they ever become dog food. And here's something many pet owners don't realize: You don't have to see mold for aflatoxin to be present.
You can't reliably identify this toxin by looking at the kibble, smelling the bag, or reading the ingredient list.
⚠️ WHAT HAPPENS INSIDE YOUR DOG'S BODY?
Aflatoxin primarily attacks the liver. And sometimes, liver damage develops before obvious symptoms appear.
Symptoms may include:
• Loss of appetite and unusual fatigue
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Yellowing of the eyes or gums
• Serious liver damage or liver failure
HERE'S THE BIGGER CONVERSATION WE SHOULD BE HAVING.
1- Where are manufacturers sourcing their ingredients?
2- Are they testing incoming ingredients AND finished products for mycotoxins?
3- What happens when a batch fails safety testing?
4- What testing procedures actually being followed?
Because here's what I want you to understand: A beautiful ingredient list means very little without proper food safety controls behind it. It is called SOURCING.
