DID YOU KNOW that Stream Valley offers assistance with international health certificates for pets traveling abroad? Our team recently helped Athena get ready for her journey to Niger, and her family was kind enough to share an update along with photos of her settled into her new home!

Her mom writes, "It's been a crazy two and a half months but Athena is all settled in Niger. She did well on the flights but was absolutely happy to arrive. Most mornings, she spends some time running around the yard chasing lizards and sniffing everything while I go for a swim. I had to make her fresh dog food for two weeks while we waited for more of hers to arrive. She refused to eat the carrots (she will not eat them raw so I cooked them and she still refused!) and I am sending hysterical evidence of that.

"I know you all only got to know her for a short time, but your kindness and efforts are something for which I cannot express enough gratitude. This was by far my most difficult move but I felt deeply comforted by your team. That sense of peace is invaluable. Thank you."

We couldn't be happier to hear that Athena is thriving in her new home on the other side of the world! Moving to a new country with a family companion can be stressful, but we strive to make the process run as smoothly as possible.

If you're considering an international move, ask us about International Health Certificates! Let us be your "pet travel concierge" when you give us a call at (703) 723-1017.

The dog days of summer are still here! Help your dog beat the heat with these cooling products that we recommend: a cooling bandana, neck gaiter, vest, coat, and a portable water bottle.

Remember, if it's too hot for us, it's too hot for them! Keep the water flowing, save the walks for early morning or late evenings, provide shade, and limit their time outdoors.

Want to learn how these can work or have any other questions? Give us a call at (703) 723-1017 today. We're happy to help!

Today we’re saying a bittersweet goodbye to our wonderful Veterinary Assistant, Kelsey, as she begins an exciting new journey. She’s heading off to PennVet to pursue her dream of becoming a mixed animal veterinarian!

Kelsey has been an integral part of our team from her days as a young kennel attendant to an accomplished veterinary assistant. Her dedication, compassion, hard work, willingness to learn and love for animals have made a positive impact on all at Stream Valley Veterinary Hospital. We couldn’t be more proud of her.

While we will miss having her here at Stream Valley, we’re excited to watch her chase her dreams. Please join us in sending best wishes to Kelsey as she embarks on this new adventure!

We love sharing happy endings--especially when they remind us that sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference!

Tami, one of our Customer Service Representatives, recently experienced every pet owner's worst nightmare when one of her three cats, Snickers, disappeared one evening.

"I have 3 cats--Tango, Snickers, and Emma. One evening at dinner time, I put out 3 bowls of food. Tango and Emma showed right away, but Snickers was nowhere to be found. I searched everywhere and couldn't find her. I felt sick to my stomach from the panic.

Then I remembered that Snickers had a HomeAgain microchip! Knowing she could be identified if someone found her gave me hope. I was so incredibly thankful when she was found and safely returned home.

I highly recommend everyone get their pet microchipped. It saved Snickers, and meant everything to our family."

Stories like this remind us why we encourage every pet to have a registered microchip. A quick scan can help reunite lost pets with the people who love them most!

Have questions about microchipping your pet? Give us a call at (703) 723-1017. We'd be happy to help! 🐾

Looking for a fun indoor activity to keep your dog busy during the heatwave?

A nail scratch board is a great way to combine mental enrichment with stress-free nail maintenance. It satisfies your dog's natural instinct to dig while keeping their nails trimmed--especially for pups who aren't fans of traditional nail trims.

Rocky is clearly having a blast showing off his scratch board skills.

Not sure how to introduce a scratch board to your dog? We're happy to help! Give us a call or bring your scratch board to your pet's next appointment, and we'll show you how to get started.

Stay tuned for a video tutorial from our team, too!

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL TOMORROW - With temperatures rising up to 105 degrees, our pets are even more susceptible to heat stroke. REMEMBER! If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for our pets!

ER hospitals have been faced with an overwhelming amount of heat stroke cases in recent weeks. We can all do our part to keep our pets safe AND help lighten their load.

* DON'T leave your pet in a hot car or outdoors for too long without access to shade and water.

* DO limit their outdoor time and restrict walks to the early mornings or late evenings.

* DO know the signs of heat stroke and call your vet IMMEDIATELY if your pet begins showing them.

If your pet does experience heat stroke (which we hope doesn't happen!) we can treat and triage before you make that ER trip! Give us a call at (703) 723-1017 so that we may best prepare for your arrival. Share with others to spread awareness!
