🐾 SEPTEMBER BOARD & TRAIN SPECIAL — REACTIVE DOGS 🐾

If you have a dog who struggles with reactivity, September is a great opportunity to get some focused, individualized training in while they’re already away from home.

I’m teaming up with Paws Claws & Stalls Pet Lodge to offer a limited Board & Train special for reactive dogs throughout September.

During your dog’s stay, I’ll work one-on-one with them to identify their triggers, build confidence and engagement, and teach better ways to respond when those triggers arise. Every dog is different, so the training will be tailored to the dog in front of me — not a one-size-fits-all approach.

My goal isn’t simply to stop a reaction. It’s to help your dog develop the skills and confidence they need to make better choices moving forward — and to give you a better understanding of how to continue that progress at home.

One of my favorite skills to teach for positioning and movement exercises. This can be such an easy exercise to teach and a lot of fun, though rewatching this video, I'm realizing I need a bigger platform for Whiskey!

Just your friendly reminder with this heat wave, the way we try to help our dogs cool down matters!

Make sure you're staying safe, hydrated and cool too!

🌞 Hot dogs need smart hydration! 🐾💦

After outdoor play, walks, or time in the summer heat, it’s important to help your dog cool down safely.

One of the biggest mistakes we see is allowing an overheated dog to gulp an entire bowl of water all at once. While fresh, cool water is essential, drinking too much too quickly can sometimes lead to vomiting or stomach discomfort.

🐶 Our tip:
✅ Offer small amounts of fresh, cool water frequently.
✅ Let your dog rest in the shade or air conditioning.
✅ Continue offering water as they cool down.

At Paws Claws & Stalls Pet Lodge, we monitor every guest after outdoor play and make sure they’re given time to cool down and rehydrate safely—because their comfort and well-being always come first. ❤️

The 4th of July can be one of the most stressful days of the year for our four-legged family members. If you haven't started a long-term desensitization plan, don't panic! There is still plenty you can do today to keep your dog safe, secure, and calm when the fireworks start.

🏃‍♂️ Early Morning Walk & Play: Tire them out completely before dusk! Focus on intense physical exercise and mental stimulation (like sniffing games or training) early in the day so they are ready to rest later.

🏡 Secure Your Home & Yard: Double-check that all windows, blinds, and doors are tightly closed to muffle the sound. Make sure your yard gates are latched and locked—and always keep a collar with up-to-date tags on your dog, just in case.

🧩 High-Value Distractions: Bust out the "super-high-value" stuff. Prepare frozen KONGs, lick mats, or puzzle toys filled with special treats, and only give them to your dog right when the noise begins to create a positive distraction.

🧘‍♂️ Stay Calm & Reassure: Dogs feed heavily off our energy. Keep your own anxiety in check, use a calm and reassuring tone, and offer gentle touch if it helps soothe them.
