🎆 Celebrate safely this holiday! 🇺🇸🐾

While fireworks are exciting for us, they can be overwhelming and frightening for many pets. Loud noises, flashing lights, and unfamiliar activity can lead to stress, anxiety, or even attempts to escape.

If your pet has a history of firework anxiety, don't wait until the last minute. Call us ahead of the holiday to discuss whether anti-anxiety medication or sedatives may be appropriate. Having a plan in place can help your pet stay calm, comfortable, and safe while the celebrations are underway.

✨ Additional tips for a stress-free celebration:

🎵 Play calming music or white noise to help mask fireworks.

Today we say goodbye (for now!) to an incredible veterinary assistant, VCA South County Animal Hospital’s very own Zach. 🩺🐾

Zach has brought compassion, patience, and so much positivity to every shift — always making pets feel safe, owners feel heard, and coworkers feel supported. Whether he was jumping in to help wherever needed or making the team laugh during a busy day, his kindness and dedication never went unnoticed.

We are so excited to watch him take the next step toward pursuing veterinary school and achieving his dream of becoming a veterinarian. We know he’s going to make an amazing doctor, and we can’t wait for the day we hopefully welcome him back through our doors — this time as Dr. Farrenberg

As the year winds down, it is a great time to make sure your pet is up to date on the medications that keep them healthy and protected. A quick review now can help avoid any gaps in care during the busy holiday season. Here are a few things to check:

💊 Keep medications on hand: This time of year gets busy, so it is helpful to check that you have the next doses of your pet’s medications ready. 🦟 Keep flea and tick protection going: Parasites are still active in many areas through winter, so staying consistent is important. ❤️ Continue heartworm prevention: Heartworm preventives should be given year round. Now is a good time to confirm you have doses ready heading into the new year.
