Unfortunately, CAC North will be closed again on Monday, 10/19. We may be taking things day by day, but we will continue to keep everyone updated.

In the meantime, please enjoy this photo of a perfect Cavalier puppy. He pooped outside today! Everyone tell him what a good boy he is!

Due to the flooding and subsequent damage, CAC North will be CLOSED for the remainder of this week. We will continue being able to see appointments at both CAC South and Urgent Animal Care of Arlington, who have both graciously allowed us to work alongside them in their facilities. If you have an appointment scheduled at CAC North for this week, our team will be reaching out with appointment updates!

We will continue to post updates as we know more, and will absolutely post an update once we have a firm reopen date! In the meantime, our team is happy to answer any questions or concerns re: scheduling and appointments.

In case anyone was worried, BamBam has temporarily relocated to his vacation home (aka Dr. Fitzgerel’s house), while we get the flooding, cleaning, and repairs taken care of at his primary residence (CAC North). He was honestly looking for an excuse to take a vacation anyway, so he’s enjoying his PTO!

Today is World Rabies Day. Unfortunately, Rabies is still a very real problem throughout the world, and while you may associate this disease with stray animals from other countries, the Northern Virginia area actually sees a fairly high rate of Rabies in our wildlife. For this reason, it is legally required that your pet be vaccinated for Rabies. Read on for some facts about Rabies...

🦠 There are between 40 and 60 animals infected with Rabies each year in Fairfax county. This year there has been at least one case of a domestic outdoor cat that tested positive for the disease.
🦠 Rabies is 100% fatal. There is no cure.
🦠 Rabies is zoonotic, which means it is transmissible to humans. Please refer to the above fact for Rabies disease prognosis.
🦠 You cannot test for Rabies disease on a live animal.
🌈 Many of our staff members are vaccinated against Rabies! Due to the nature of our occupations, anyone going through veterinary or veterinary technology schools are required to be vaccinated for Rabies. We are also required to check our titers every 2 years.

We always recommend keeping your pets on a flea, tick, and heartworm preventative year-round. Why? Because in many areas, including ours, it doesn't get cold enough to kill ticks. Ticks are shockingly hardy, and can survive cold weather easily, which means they can still be found latching onto people and animals during the winter months. Rather than risk a tick-borne illness, we recommend continuing your preventatives throughout the year in order to best protect your pet!
