Apparently, I thought I was training my dog… 😂But consistency works both ways!

Meanwhile, my dog has been consistently training ME to hand over treats every time he stares at me, sits beside me, or simply exists within snack radius. 🐶🍪

And honestly? He’s been VERY consistent. 😂
Here’s the training tip: dogs repeat what gets rewarded. If begging, staring, pawing, whining, or hovering gets a treat—even occasionally—you may be teaching your dog that persistence pays.

👉 Want less begging? Reward the behavior you actually WANT to see: calmness, going to place, waiting patiently, or walking away from the food.

like i said, Consistency works both ways. 😉

When someone leaves the door open for “just a second”…
…and your dog hears: FREEDOM. 😂🐕💨
Door-dashing isn’t something you want to wait until it happens to train. Build the habit before your dog gets the opportunity to practice escaping.
🐾 Try this: • Teach a solid place/wait at the door.

• Practice opening the door in tiny steps while rewarding your dog for staying put.

• Have everyone in the household follow the same door routine.

• Practice with distractions so your dog learns that an open door doesn’t automatically mean “GO!”

• And most importantly—manage the environment. If you’re expecting guests, use a gate, leash, crate, or another secure setup.
Because the goal isn't to hope your dog doesn't run out.
The goal is to teach them they don't need to. ❤️

I’m watching them to make sure they aren’t eating something they shouldn’t, while they’re watching me to make sure I’m not eating something they should be. 👀🐶

…but suddenly they’ve developed selective hearing. 😂
You know the look: “I heard you.” “I understood you.” “I’m just choosing… absolutely not.” 🐶
And honestly? This is exactly why dog training isn’t just about teaching commands. It’s about building engagement, communication, consistency, and follow-through so your dog learns that listening to you actually matters.
Because “he knows it” and “he does it when I ask” are two VERY different things. 😉

There’s something we willingly accept about having dogs:
We work. They contribute absolutely nothing financially. They eat our food, sleep on our furniture, and somehow convince us they deserve another treat. 😂
And honestly? We’re perfectly happy with the arrangement. ❤️
Because when you have a well-behaved dog who listens, respects boundaries, can go places with you, and actually knows how to exist in the real world… that little freeloader earns their keep in ways money can’t measure. 🐶
The cuddles, the companionship, the laughs, the adventures—and coming home to that face?
Yeah… I’ll keep paying the bills. 😂❤️

There’s a quiet ache that lives in every dog parent’s chest.
