Always a project happening here at Labrador Land! 🐾

The fence got a fresh coat of paint, and we just finished adding new wire mesh to help keep puppy noses inside and curious hands outside.

One of our favorite things about raising Labradors in a neighborhood instead of on a farm or in a kennel is all the people who stop by. We love seeing neighbors throw tennis balls, say hello to the dogs, and watch the puppies grow up. It truly means a lot to us.

As a small favor, if you see a tennis ball stuck under the fence, please don’t bend or pry on the mesh to get it out. We’ve had a few well-meaning adults and kids accidentally damage sections of the fence while trying to retrieve a ball or sneak in a quick puppy pet. The fencing is there to help keep everyone safe—both the dogs and the people visiting them.

If you’d like to meet the dogs or throw a few tennis balls, just send us a text! There’s almost always someone home, and we’d be happy to hang!

P.S. The dogs are already testing the durability of the new fence inspectors approved… for now. 😂🐾

Philly x Rio’s pups are starting to explore!

This week they were introduced to their first tunnel and wobble board. It’s incredible how much confidence develops when puppies are exposed to new challenges at an early age.

We’re already seeing huge growth in curiosity, problem-solving, and independence. These little experiences may seem simple, but they play a big role in raising well-socialized, confident family companions.

The personalities are definitely starting to shine through. ❤️🐾

Did you know that every YFL puppy goes home with a First Right of Refusal agreement?

That means if, at any point in a dog’s life, a family can no longer keep their YFL Labrador, we require that the dog comes back to us rather than being surrendered to a shelter, rescue, or rehomed without our involvement.

Because of that commitment, and thanks to our microchipping program, we can proudly say that not a single Yates Family Labradors puppy has ever ended up in a shelter or rescue organization.

Many of you chose YFL because you wanted the support, accountability, and lifelong commitment that comes with an ethical breeder. While we’re proud of our record, we also know there are many wonderful Labradors sitting in shelters and rescues waiting for families of their own.

So throughout this week, for every review left on Google, Facebook, or Yelp, Yates Family Labradors will donate $25 to the Lab Rescue LRCP (Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac Rescue).

We’re making the switch to Simparica Trio.

For years we’ve used NexGard and Heartgard for our dogs. After a lot of conversations with our veterinarians at North Oatlands Animal Hospital, we’re moving our program over to Simparica Trio.

There are a few reasons for the change.

First, it’s one chew instead of two. When you’re managing multiple dogs, simplifying things helps ensure nothing gets missed.

Second, it provides protection against fleas, ticks, heartworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms all in a single monthly tablet.

Finally, many of our dogs spend time training, hunting, swimming, hiking, or simply being active family companions. Having broad parasite protection in one product makes sense for how our dogs live.

This isn’t a knock on NexGard or Heartgard. We’ve had good experiences with both products. We simply feel Simparica Trio is the best fit for our program moving forward.

As always, talk with your veterinarian about what preventative program makes the most sense for your dog. We’ll continue to monitor how our dogs do with the switch and keep everyone updated.🐾

🐾 Philly x Rio’s First Meal! 🐾

The red crew got their very first taste of puppy mush today, and judging by the pictures, I’d say it was a success! 😆

We always have their first meals on fresh newspaper. It makes cleanup easy while allowing them to explore, play, and inevitably wear some of their food. As you can see, a few pups were convinced the best place to store lunch was directly on their faces! 😂

This is a big milestone as they begin the transition from relying solely on mom to becoming independent little eaters. Full bellies, wagging tails, and sleepy puppies are exactly what we like to see.

Bath time is on the schedule later today, but for now, everyone is enjoying a well-earned nap after working hard at the food bowl.
