Welcome to Buchanan’s Boarding: Our Story & Our Pack
Founded in 2021 by Shanley and James Buchanan, Buchanan’s Boarding was built out of a lifelong devotion to dogs.
For Shanley, dogs have always been the ultimate passion. Her background includes years of hands-on experience across high-end dog boutiques, specialized care with Kimberly’s K9 Fitness, active fostering with Cody’s Friends Rescue, and a hands-on internship with Proven K9. While working in the medical field pays the bills, dog boarding is what truly feeds the heart and soul.
What We Do & How We Care
When your pet stays with us, they truly become part of our family. They spend most of their time relaxing alongside our own dogs—whether that’s lounging on the sofa, stretching out on our beds, or snoozing in their own spots.
To keep everyone safe and comfortable, dogs are crated during mealtime to ensure peaceful feeding, as well as periodically while we're away at work. Daily crate time depends on our schedules and the total number of guest dogs staying with us (which is most common during busy holiday periods). We work standard 9–5 hours, though James has extra flexibility throughout the day to check in and spend quality time with everyone.
As we settle into our new home, we are actively expanding to create the ultimate home-away-from-home experience:
• Privacy Fencing: A brand-new privacy fence is being installed to ensure maximum safety and secure off-leash play.�
• The "Dog House" Remodel: We are transforming our metal shop into a dedicated dog facility, complete with climate-controlled AC and full indoor plumbing.�
• Future Fun: By next summer, we plan to add an outdoor pool dedicated to dock diving and leisure swimming.�
Our goal is simple: to keep growing until we can dedicate ourselves to full-time boarding, giving your dogs the love, attention, and comfort they deserve.
Why Sanger?
Our move to Sanger brought everything full circle. James has worked in food safety since 2001, applying his expertise to top brands like Dr Pepper/Snapple, a local kombucha company, and most recently, Starbucks. When the opportunity arose to transition his skills into the pet industry, he jumped at it.
Today, James serves as the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Manager for Muenster Milling. Through his work, we’ve been able to give back to the community by donating thousands of pounds of high-quality dog food to local rescues and food pantries.
Meet the Buchanan Pack
Our household is full of love, tail wags, and a few feline supervisors:
• Apollo: A striking brindle Pittie/German Shepherd mix adopted from the Lewisville Animal Shelter during COVID.�
• Penèlope: A spunky fawn Pug rescued after a breeder was unable to provide care for an early eye injury.�
• Gracie: A sweet black Pug brought home from a Cody’s Friends adoption event intended as a "temporary foster"—until she stole Shanley’s heart and became her ultimate soul dog.�
• Hailee & Panama: The household cats (who will readily tell you they belong strictly to James!).�
• Sweet Pea (Current Foster): Dumped in a parking lot after having a litter, Sweet Pea came to us severely underweight, heartworm-positive, and needing dental care. Today, she is healthy, fully recovered, and patiently waiting for her forever home.�
