They don't hear you calling, but they can apparently hear a treat bag open from three rooms away? 😂

A reliable recall isn’t just convenient, it’s an important skill that can help keep your dog safe.

If “COME!” feels more like a suggestion than a request your dog understands, it may be time to work on communication, consistency, and recall, especially around distractions.
Because great hearing doesn’t automatically mean great listening. 😉

A crate should be more than a place your dog is sent to. It should become a place they feel safe and comfortable.

When introduced properly, crate training can help with toilet training, destructive behaviors, time alone, travel, and vet visits.

One important rule: Never use the crate as punishment. The goal is to build positive associations with this space.

What dog breed is known for its glass eyes?

The answer? Catahoulas! Many Catahoulas have striking blue eyes, cracked eyes (multiple colors in one eye), or two different colored eyes. These are often called "glass eyes" and are a hallmark of the breed.

Here are a few more fun facts about them:

🎨 Leopard Coat Patterns
Their coats come in an incredible variety of merle, brindle, patchwork, and leopard-like patterns.

🐄 They Herd Differently
Unlike Border Collies that gather livestock, Catahoulas often work in a "canine fence" formation, circling cattle or hogs to control movement. They're especially known for handling wild hogs in the South.

🏃 Built for Tough Jobs
Originally developed in Louisiana (where they are the official state dog!), they were bred to track, hunt, herd, and protect. They are highly versatile working dogs with tremendous stamina and intelligence.

🧠 Independent Thinkers
Catahoulas are extremely smart but not always eager to please. They were bred to make decisions on their own in the field, so they can be more independent than breeds like Golden Retrievers or Labs.

🐶🐶 Thinking about bringing home two puppies from the same litter?

Many owners are surprised to learn about littermate syndrome, a term used to describe behavioral challenges that can develop when two puppies become overly dependent on each other instead of building confidence as individuals.

Dogs experiencing littermate syndrome may struggle with:
- Separation anxiety when apart
- Fear or anxiety in new situations
- Difficulty focusing during training
- Excessive barking or reactivity
- Competition or even aggression as they mature

The good news? It doesn't have to stay that way. Whether you're raising littermates, adopted two puppies close in age, or are already seeing these behaviors, our in-home training programs provide practical, customized solutions that work in your everyday environment.

Barking is normal. Excessive barking is a message worth listening to.

Dogs bark for many different reasons: excitement, fear, boredom, attention, or because something in their environment is triggering a response.

That’s why simply trying to stop the noise doesn’t necessarily solve the problem. At Bark Busters, we help owners look at what’s behind the barking, understand what their dog is communicating, and address the behavior—not just the sound.

Your dog doesn’t need to stop being a dog. They need to learn when barking is appropriate, and when it’s time to settle.

October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month!

Pit Bulls are powerful dogs, but they're also one of the most misunderstood.

Behind that strong, muscular appearance can be an affectionate, intelligent, enthusiastic dog with a deep bond to their family. Pit Bulls are confident, outgoing, highly trainable, and loving toward people. Historically they've been dubbed "the nanny dog," because of their gentleness with children. Like any dog, they need education, socialization, clear communication, and consistent guidance to help them thrive.

Their strength and enthusiasm can make behaviors like pulling, overexcitement, reactivity, or poor leash manners especially challenging, which makes the right training even more important.

Love your Pit Bull but need some help with their behavior? Contact me today! https://www.barkbusters.com/dog-training/arlington-tx/

Dogs don't learn from what we say nearly as much as they learn from what we do.

If we want our dogs to be calm, we need to practice calmness. If we want consistency, we need to be consistent.

Our dogs are always watching. They notice our energy, our habits, and whether the rules change from one day to the next.

If we want commitment to training, we need to show up every day with the same expectations and follow-through.
