You might be under-perching your parrot’s enclosure.

In this episode, Alexis and Avery explain why we actually want to fill the enclosure with plenty of varied perching so parrots can move, climb, explore, rest, and access every part of their space without relying on the cage bars.

Think less “empty cage” and more structured jungle.

There’s just no better way to celebrate your love of birds than by sharing it with the humans you love, too.

Thank you so much to this beautiful little bird family for joining us today!

World Migratory Bird Day is a wonderful reminder to appreciate nature and bask in its beauty. We had absolutely PHENOMENAL weather today!

Even though most of the migrants have already passed through our area, we wish them well on the rest of their journey. We’ll be patiently awaiting their return in the spring.

Cheers to the millions of birders who went out today, and a BIG welcome to all the new birders out there! We’re so happy to have you! 💙💙💙💙💙

On Tuesday afternoon, we had the privilege of visiting Waverly Inn Memory Care Community, just down the road from Parrot Stars. We were able to bring a few different species and share them with a wonderful group of residents. I was surprised by the turnout and so grateful to Waverly Inn for hosting us.

Memory care is something that is personally very important to me and has impacted my own family. It is truly a privilege to work with communities that are so passionate about providing their residents with meaningful experiences and opportunities to stay engaged and connected.

I believe animal encounters offer a unique opportunity for connection, curiosity, and engagement, and I’m grateful that we get to share these experiences with our community.

Thank you again to Waverly Inn for welcoming us!

Some Parrots are colored the way they way are for camouflage?? Tune in to find out. Alexis and Avery dive into how parrots see color, why some feathers seem to glow or shift in different light, and what makes parrot pigments so unique. They also explore how color helps parrots recognize each other, choose mates, communicate, and ultimately survive in the wild.

Don’t forget our species spotlight featuring the Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao)!

Always Remember: Be kind to your Parrot, and it will be kind to you!

Every morning, Glenda, our hand feeder at our breeding program, sends me a video update of our baby Red-tailed Black Cockatoo.

During these first few months, we carefully track the baby’s weight and development, so around feeding and weigh-in time, I usually get a little video showing how things are going.

This reel is a compilation of those updates from roughly the last 30 days. It’s pretty incredible to see just how much a young bird can grow and change in only a month.
