Valentines day is extra special in several ways on the ranch, we get sentimental about the people and animals we consider our partners, the cows often find it a great day to begin calving, and three years ago on this day our lives changed forever.
My husband and I have a long standing tradition of gifting each other bits on Valentines Day, they are lasting, generational even. Roses are a lovely gesture, but bridle bits are forever. We each have our favorite makers and styles, some for function and some we collect. In 2024 he found maybe the best one yet, we exchanged gifts in the parking lot by the trailer before we roped which is why of course there is a horse in the picture. Cody was a little disappointed by my reaction when I opened my bit, I didn't tear up, but I could hardly wait for him to open his bag. When he held up the tiny red onesie that was embroidered "Baby Sheridan" I could hardly breathe as his eyes welled up. Our tradition is wonderful, but that is my favorite violation of that tradition. Forever Valentines Day holds a little extra special love for us. When we play the game and ask you, who is your Valentine? We have an extra special meaning for those words. Love for eachother, for this lifestyle, is what drives us, but sharing that love with our daughter is what gives us purpose. We want to see the loved one that fuels your fire, the passion that defines you and gives you purpose!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Much love, The Sheridan's
