Place outside is a whole different challenge — and Kipper is stepping up to it. 🐾
It's one thing to work place in a calm, quiet environment. It's another thing entirely when there's wind and smells and sounds and a whole world happening around you. That's where Kipper is working right now, on lesson three — place outside, in the thick of it.
And he's getting it. He's figuring out that the bed is still the bed, no matter what's going on around him. That's a skill that's going to follow him everywhere.
This puppy has a bright future. šŸ’›

Recall is one of those skills that can genuinely keep your dog safe. It's not just a trick — it matters. 🐾
Rio is working on coming when called, and he's doing it in a way that's going to hold up when it counts. We're not just calling him in the backyard when nothing's happening. We're building it to be real — something he does because he trusts that coming back is always the right move.
Rio's been showing up and doing the work, and this is a dog who's going to keep getting better. šŸ’›

What if coming back to you was the most exciting thing that happened all day? šŸŽ‰šŸ¾
That's exactly what we're building with Kipper. When tug is something your dog loves — and I mean really loves — it becomes the perfect reward for recall. We call him back, he comes flying in, and the party starts.
Recall built on something a dog genuinely wants is recall that holds up in real life. Not just in your kitchen. Not just when nothing else is happening. Out there, when it matters.
Kipper is on lesson three and already making connections that are going to shape him for life. šŸ’›

Skills have to work where life actually happens. 🐾 Rio's working "let's go" in a distracting environment and staying right with me. The foundation is solid — now we build on it. šŸ’›

Tug gets a bad reputation. But when it's done right, it's one of the best tools in the box. 🐾
Kipper is a Cane Corso puppy with a LOT of drive — and tug gives that drive somewhere healthy and intentional to go. We're not just playing. We're building a relationship around something he loves, on our terms, with our rules.
Who starts it. Who ends it. What happens in between. All of that matters.
And a puppy who learns to play tug WITH you instead of AT you? That's a puppy who's learning that you're the most interesting thing in the environment. That's everything. šŸ’›

Inside was one thing. Outside is a whole new game. 🐾
Sully is working sit on the dog outdoors now — more smells, more sounds, more everything pulling at his attention. And we're asking him to do the same thing anyway. Freedom to exist, but not to run the show.
It's harder outside. Of course it is. But that's also exactly why we do it out here. Because Sully's real life happens outside too. And the more places he can learn to settle, the more peace his whole family gets to have.
He's doing it. Step by step. šŸ’›

Here's the thing about a command based only on value — it disappears the moment something more interesting shows up. 🐾
With Rio, we're building a sit using leash pressure. Not because treats are bad — but because we want a command that holds up in real life, not just when Rio feels like it. Leash pressure creates a clear, consistent signal that doesn't depend on what's in your pocket that day.
Rio learns that the sit happens because it's the right answer — not because something good might come out of it. And when that clicks? You've got reliability. šŸ’›

Outside time is not always playtime. And that's a lesson Kipper is working on. šŸ˜„šŸ¾
Here's the thing — Kipper is a Cane Corso puppy full of energy and enthusiasm, and the moment those paws hit the grass, his brain goes straight to PLAY MODE. Which is adorable. And also means he's not going potty when he needs to, because he's too busy being a maniac.
So we're reshaping what outside means. Let's go. Pack drive. Forward movement. A more focused, purposeful energy so that outside becomes a place where we work AND we settle — not just a giant playground.
When outside has structure, everything out there gets easier. And we can actually get down to business. šŸ’›

Sometimes the most powerful training tool is just sitting down. 🐾
"Sit on the dog" is exactly what it sounds like — we sit with our dog, give them a lot of freedom to move around, but not a lot of choices about where to go. And then we just wait. We let them figure it out.
Hank is a big, anxious Great Pyrenees who has spent a lot of his life overwhelmed by the world around him. So we sat. We decompressed together. And slowly, in his own time, he started to settle.
No pressure. No commands barked at him. Just two beings hanging out until his nervous system remembered it was allowed to rest. šŸ’›
This is the kind of work that doesn't look flashy — but it changes everything underneath.
