Finley (aka Dot) ā From Fear to Forever ā¤ļøš¾
Sometimes the road to a forever home is longer than we expectābut for Finley, every step was worth it.
Finley, affectionately known as Dot, joined Texas OES Rescue on January 4, 2026, along with another OES named Bette. The two girls were among many dogs rescued from a backyard breeder and hoarding situation. Several rescue organizations came together that day to save these dogs, and CHEW provided much-needed care as they began their journey toward a better life.
When Finley first arrived with TXOESR, she was a very frightened and traumatized girl. She struggled with the many changes in her life and, in particular, had significant issues with being in a crate. Her first foster home was unable to help her decompress and overcome her fears.
Then came Amanda, along with Finleyās TXOESR coordinator, Andrea.
With patience, understanding, and the help of Amandaās little pack of dogs, Finley slowly began to realize that she was safe. Over the next 30 days, something wonderful happenedāFinley began to come out of her shell and become part of the pack.
But just as Finley was beginning to settle into her new life, an unexpected medical emergency nearly changed everything.
Finley was scheduled to be spayed in late January. Unfortunately, the surgical closing procedure did not go as planned. After returning home, Amanda quickly noticed that Finley was bleeding when she should not have been. Trusting her instincts, Amanda rushed Finley to an emergency veterinary hospital.
That quick action saved Finleyās life.
Finley required emergency care and an extended stay, with her medical expenses eventually reaching approximately $13,000. Thanks to the incredible generosity of TXOESR supporters and donors, we were able to provide Finley with the lifesaving medical care she needed. Thankfully, she recovered beautifully.
And her journey continued.
For the next six months, Amanda and Andrea patiently worked with Finley on her shyness and nervousness, crate issues, and general behaviors. Little by little, the frightened girl who had entered TXOESR in January became a sweet, loving and increasingly confident little girl.
Finley had several meet-and-greets along the way, but none of them were quite the right fit. We knew that after everything she had been through, Finley needed the right familyānot just any family.
Then, finally, the perfect match came along.
Rose and Patrick Meagher of Frisco, Texas, were looking to add an OES to their family. They had no children and already had two beloved dogsāJameson, 11, and Bailey, 3. Rose describes herself as a āstay-at-home dog momā and has experience with herding breeds, making her an especially wonderful fit for Finley.
The Meaghers first spotted Finley on the TXOESR page, and something about this sweet girl caught their attention.
A meet-and-greet was scheduled for September 26.
And this time, everything fell into place.
The meeting was a resounding success, and Finleyāafter everything she had endured, overcome and learnedāfinally found what everyone at TXOESR had been hoping for:

Finleyās story is a beautiful reminder that rescue is not always a straight or easy road. Sometimes it takes months of patience, medical care, training, understanding and, most importantly, people who refuse to give up.
Today, Dot is no longer the frightened girl who arrived at TXOESR in January. She is Finley Meagher, a beloved member of a family who was simply waiting for the right OES to find them.
And we couldn't be happier that after all those twists and turns,
