Are you attending The Kitten Conference this weekend? It's an annual event put on by our friends at National Kitten Coalition, and it's always packed full of great information to help caretakers save more lives. If you're attending, make sure to check out our presentation Sunday afternoon called Bottle Babies Without Burnout!

A crying, cold kitten may make you want to reach for a bottle — but in neonatal care, that instinct can be deadly.

Cold kittens can't digest food. Feeding before warming can cause a rapid, fatal crash. That's why one of the most important rules we follow is simple but non-negotiable: warmth always comes before feeding.

Warming isn't a delay in care — it is care. It's what allows a kitten's body to wake up, digest safely, and survive.

We explain this life-saving rule in our blog. If you've ever found a kitten or want to learn how to help the most fragile lives, this one matters.

Feeding feels like the fastest way to help — and like the most loving response in a crisis. But in neonatal kitten care, acting on that instinct can do far more harm than good.

Like many rescues, we're currently at capacity and unable to take in additional kittens right now. But that doesn't mean we can't help.

So when a local family found this little one all alone in a busy parking lot, we welcomed them to the Nursery, showed them how to safely care for her, answered their questions, and sent them home with the knowledge they need to give her a chance.

Sometimes saving kittens looks like bringing them into rescue. Sometimes it looks like empowering the people who found them to become their heroes 🌟

We loved welcoming the team from Mitchell County Animal Rescue, Inc-North Carolina to the Nursery today!

They're working to expand their neonatal kitten program and stopped by to get a behind-the-scenes look at how we care for our tiniest and most fragile patients.

One of our favorite parts of this work is sharing knowledge, resources, and lessons learned with other organizations. When rescues work together, more kittens get the specialized care they need—and more lives are saved.

We're excited to see the impact their growing program will have for kittens in their community.

Meet Chai and Toddy ❤️

These sweet siblings had a rough start to life, but help found them just in time. Over the last month, they've been healing, growing, and discovering that not all humans are scary. With patience, love, and plenty of kitten adventures, they've blossomed into happy, playful little companions who are ready for their forever homes.

Chai, the beautiful tortie, and Toddy, her handsome brother, share a special bond, and they love to spend the rest of their lives side by side, so we're looking for a lucky family willing to welcome them both.

Every spring and summer, we get the same urgent message: "I found kittens outside. What do I do?"

If this ever happens to you, the most important first step might surprise you: Pause. Observe. Wait.

Most outdoor kittens are not abandoned. Mother cats leave for hours at a time to hunt, and when we move kittens too quickly, we can accidentally separate them from the one caregiver who gives them the best chance of survival.

We made a step-by-step video walking you through it. This is the guidance we wish everyone had before picking up a litter.

Education prevents emergencies. It keeps families together. And it protects overcrowded shelters from taking in kittens who were never truly orphaned. Watch here:

If you’ve found kittens outdoors, take a deep breath before you move them.Every kitten season, thousands of well-meaning people accidentally separate kittens...

Every spring, shelters brace for it. Kittens arrive too young to eat on their own. Too fragile to regulate their body temperature. Too vulnerable to wait.

But here's the truth: the kitten crisis isn't just a shelter problem — it's a community one. And that means it's also a community solution.

When communities prepare before kitten season peaks, fewer kittens enter shelters, fewer are orphaned unnecessarily, and more tiny lives survive. Prevention is lifesaving.

We wrote a new blog about how everyday people can help prevent the kitten crisis in shelters — and how small, informed actions truly add up. Check it out here:

The kitten crisis isn’t just a shelter problem. It’s a community problem. And that means it’s also a community solution.
