From the truck to the field, keep your bird dog safe🛻🌾

We are just about 2 weeks away from the start of Oklahoma’s bird hunting seasons!
We are here to give you a few tips & tricks to keep your partner safe this season 🦆🐾

• Stay current on prevention medicine- vaccines & monthly preventatives are key 💊💉

• Be mindful of the weather- Hypothermia & Hyperthermia are major things to watch out for- especially if your dog isn’t used to the elements ❄️☀️

• Safety gear- a first aid kit is #1 on the list, along with proper attire for your dog like vests, booties and ID tags 🦺 🪪

• Healthy weight and proper conditioning- you wouldn’t just hop off the couch and go run an Ironman so make sure your bird dog is fit and ready🏋🏼

Take the time to do a tailgate check after every hunt. Check over eyes, ears, bellies, paws and everywhere in between for any cuts or foreign bodies that could cause major damage if left untreated🔎

We want to see your bird dogs powered by Great Plains Vet 📸⬇️

We wish everyone a happy and safe hunting season!

Make sure to put your shades on, it’s Phovia time 😎

🧬Phovia is a novel way to manipulate the function of cells within the dermis and epidermis, to reduce inflammation but still accelerate regeneration. It is used for a variety of inflammatory / infectious skin conditions along with wound healing progression.

🔦It is a two-part system, comprising a LED lamp and a chromophore gel, used together, they produce multi-wavelength fluorescent light energy that can pe*****te the skin to variable depths. Unlike other systems, Phovia is capable of triggering different beneficial responses at different levels.

Tiny needles. Big results🐴

🪡Equine acupuncture is a therapeutic modality that involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the horse's body to stimulate healing and promote balance.

💪🏻Acupuncture has long been a staple in human alternative medicine, but it's also making strides in the world of equine therapy. This ancient practice, adapted for horses, promises to alleviate a range of ailments, from muscle soreness to chronic pain, enhancing overall equine well-being.

🪴As horse owners seek out holistic approaches to care, they're turning to equine acupuncture for its minimal side effects and potential to boost performance and healing times. Understanding the principles behind this traditional Chinese medicine technique is key to appreciating its place in modern equine practices.

Fleas, and ticks, and mosquitoes… Oh My!

Did you know April- September are the peak months for flea and ticks in Oklahoma?
June through August bring peak danger for heavy tick attachment and rapid flea reproduction.

🦠Fleas and ticks not only cause irritation to the skin, but they also carry many harmful diseases like
- Lyme
- Bobcat Fever
- Ehrlichiosis
- Flea Allergy Dermatitis
& many more!

Don’t forget about your feline friends too! They need protection even if they are indoors only, you never know what can be brought inside from others 🐈

Heartworm prevention is another very important thing to stay on top of this summer🪱🦟

Heartworms are parasites carried by mosquitoes that can cause serious disease in dogs and occasionally cats. These worms can live up to 5-7 years in the host’s lungs and heart🫀🫁

Annual testing is recommended to ensure dogs remain heartworm free, 4DX test can be used to detect this and 3 common tick borne infections🔬

This risk of heartworm and tick disease drop almost to a zero when pets receive continuous, year-round protection💊

Come in and talk to your vet about all the amazing different prevention treatments we have for your feline and canine companions🐕🐈‍⬛
