📜 Certificate Spotlight: Hair & Skin📜
A great groom starts before the clippers come out! Proper bathing, brushing, drying, and coat preparation all play a huge role in the final result.
We took this 4 hr course at the All American Grooming Show with a licensed veterinarian who helped us better understand different coats, choose the right products and tools, safely work through tangles, and use techniques that make grooming more efficient, comfortable, and effective. Not only does it result in beautiful grooms, but pets with healthier skin and coats!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This course was taught by a licensed veterinarian and reinforced just how much goes into creating a quality grooming experience before the actual haircut even begins. The way a pet is bathed, brushed, dried, and prepared builds the foundation for the entire groom. It also emphasized the importance of understanding the individual pet, their coat, and their needs so that the grooming techniques can be adjusted accordingly.
The course covered everything from choosing the right shampoos, conditioners, and products for different coat types to using grooming tools effectively. It took a deep dive into the science behind a pet's skin and how each product and tool can affect that important protective barrier. As a science nerd myself, it was great looking at it all from that science focused lens...however if I hear the word "sebum" one more time...it'll be too soon.
We also covered safe and effective techniques for handling tangles and matting, along with ways to make the grooming process more efficient without compromising a pet’s comfort or safety. These practical skills are an important part of being able to recognize when a particular approach is appropriate and when we need to adjust our techniques to meet the needs of the individual pet.
Ultimately, this course reinforced our mission statement of "making every groom a critical success" by giving us a deeper understanding of the science behind grooming and the skills to properly address a variety of skin and coat needs safely and effectively.
