I’d be lying if I said, I had a short quick recap coming your way but…..
It’s been a little over a week since we took 10 horses to a horse show, and that itself is not a short recap.
To say the start of the show went smoothly would be another lie- Our first trailer load of horses were dropped off, and upon loading the second trip we noticed a big bolt in my tire. If changing a tire in a quickly manner wasn’t inconvenient enough, mother nature decided to sprinkle in some rain… Heading out with the second set of horses, the rain never stopped. Most horses had to practice in an arena they were not going to be showing in the next day, in the dark, when it was cold and miserable. By the time all horses were bathed, banded, and set for the night it had me stepping into my camper at 2:45 AM… Back up in 3 ish hours I was at 6 AM for show day #1 😅
Once the show started to roll, things started to smooth out and things started to really go right, a few small hitches, but everyone SHOWED, smiled, laughed and had a great weekend despite the early onset of challenges!! More than once this weekend I was complimented on how great of a group I have, and boy do I know!! I was so proud of all the hard work that everyone has put in this winter to be showcased so bright and so blue most of everyone’s first show out! Everyone doing well in the arena, the memories made, the encouragement and support from each other- it was truly such a wonderful thing to be a part of! Some highlights;
💥Hunting A Party & Saywer Merring💥
This duo had their 2nd show together, and boy did it still shine blue!! This show they were able to compete in Leadline showmanship, Eq/horsemanship, pleasure, and trail- BOTH days, an English day & a western day. SO many top placings landed him High Point English Leadline, and Reserve High Point Western Leadline. But that wasn’t all, the halter duo themselves walked out Grand Champion Mare for the weekend! I just love how much he loves to show! As we gear up to later this season get those two in walk trot, I took “Boo” in the memorial W/J Class to see how she did on the rail… And well we came out with another blue ribbon and novelty blanket for Sawyer to add to his collection!
🍀Moxie Marvel & Sara McMicken🍀
These two really found their rhythm this weekend, and had a GREAT show! Wins in multiple classes such as Novice HUS, Youth HUS, Novice EQ, and Novice Showmanship! They were 2nd in some of the big open classes, landing them novelty blanket by being reserve in the HUS W/T Memorial class. They rounded out their weekend as High Point Novice for the Hunt Seat Portion! If one big ribbon and blanket wasn’t enough, “Marvin” also stood Reserve Halter Gelding for the weekend! So many exciting things on the schedule for these two and I cannot wait to see it!
Code Me Cute & Layne Brown-Swisher
This new team finally had their first show together! They are learning each-other in the show pen but still finding LOTS of blues! Wins in the Novice trail, Novice & Youth WP, and Novice & Youth Horsemanship! They placed in all of the rest of their classes, and would have been High Point Novice Western had their been 1 more person in one more of the novice classes; For their first show together, Layne’s first show loping, they handled themselves very well, with lots of deserving ribbons, and they are just getting started!
🪄Dealing With Magic & Ruby/Caleen Meehan🪄
First show out for this mom & daughter duo with their boy! Ruby & “Clyde” had a great English day landing multiple 2nds and even a 2nd in her first ever riding pattern in the English EQ, getting all their diagonals within a stride and correct! With all their success they managed to land Reserve Champion Youth Walk Trot English! Though western day did not go as planned for them, Ruby’s outlook and mindset was by far past her age and I don’t think any of us could be more proud of how she handled it!
Caleen and “Clyde” have been working all winter on their in hand events, and boy did it show! She landed a 2nd & 6th in big showmanship classes, and adding a new event, the in hand trail- landing 3rd!!
Much higher places than last year with such better patterns, confidence, and we can’t not say nothing about her new suit- chef’s kiss!
💃🏼She’s My Kinda Fancy & Nicola DiLuzio💃🏼
Second show in the books for this new team- but this time doing multiple new classes! With these multiple new classes they still brought home many ribbons, even winning ranch horse showmanship, and color horse showmanship!! (Nicola learned showmanship a week before the show) They were top 2 & 3 in most of their other classes and even brought home a big ribbon; Earning Reserve Halter mare for the weekend!! So many exciting things to come as these two continue to become a team!
💝CR Klassic Invite & Raselle Gilbert💝
This was BOTH Raselle’s and “April”’s first show of the year, AND first time cantering in a class! They handled it so well! One of my favorite moments this weekend was watching their first cantering class where “April” got a little nervous; Raselle re-collected and pushed her through it finishing the class strong- The very next class they put all the pieces together and WON the Green Horse HUS! Throughout the rest of the weekend they continued to place, gaining more confidence and trust. They haven’t gotten to the stage to slow down and “lope” so they did a little western walk jog in the open classes and was killing it landing in the top! So much to come for these two, I can’t wait to see where they go this season!
🌹Huntin Good Version LuAnne/Liz Ferrill🌹
“Rose” hasn’t been in a trailer or to a show in over a year, nor has LuAnne and her daughter Liz, it’s been many years- but they decided to go for it! LuAnne and “Rose” were top 6 in both her halter classes and then turned the reins over to her daughter for the riding portion; And WOW did “Rose” show up! She hung her head, with the occasional side eye on the rail to see if anyone would give her cookies, and jogged along, which gave Liz the upmost confidence and a big smile! Placing 2nds in her W/J classes we couldn’t be more thrilled, and being 7 months pregnant we were so happy “Rose” took care of them both! While Liz prepares to welcome a son, LuAnne will be next to take the reins under saddle and we are excited to see where they go!
🍫Too Chocolatey For U & Elouise Scanlon🍫
Our little Elouise had the best time with her Best friend “Chloe” this weekend. Trying MANY new classes, they competed in the all around English Leadline, and Western Leadline- She earned ribbons in all of her classes even getting some 2nds & 3rd in trail- which is very new to them and very exciting since they have been working on it! They had the best time and had huge improvements in the showmanship from day 1 to day 2! So much to come from these girls, and we can’t wait to see it!
💨Northern Wind & Liz Ferrill💨
With neither Liz or “Skye” being at a show together in many years, she decided she wanted to take Skye along for the field trip, they stood great in the halter but knew the “old lady” wasn’t as tight and toned as some of those other horses- but stood well and enjoyed all the attention she got throughout the weekend!
🥃Any Ol Barstool 🥃
“Jloww” came along to see the sights and ride around- which she handled so well with so little prep and attention- We were so happy this 3yo was content, and seemed to be so quiet about everything around her!
Such a great weekend, and we get to do all over again very soon!!
