☀️ Buckle up ,the horribly hot weather is here, and our pups need a little extra help staying safe! 🐾
Dogs don’t cool themselves the same way we do, so even temperatures that feel “not too bad” to us can become dangerous for them.
*some dogs are at a higher risk of overheating, including puppies, senior dogs, overweight dogs and flat-faced breeds(like bulldogs, pugs,Shih Tzus, Boston terriers ,boxers etc)
A few simple ways to help keep your furry friends safe:
• Keep those bowls filled with fresh, cool water both indoors and out
• Make sure they always have access to shade and a fan or AC. Cooling mats or a damp, cool towel to lie on work wonders too.
• Walk early in the morning or later in the evening when the pavement and air are cooler.
• Check the pavement with the back of your hand for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!
• NEVER leave your dog in a parked car—even for “just a minute.” Even with the windows cracked, a parked car can turn into an oven in minutes.
• Keep playtime shorter on hot days and let your dog take plenty of breaks.
🚨 Know the signs of heatstroke:
• Excessive panting
• Thick or excessive drooling
• Bright red or pale gums
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Glassy eyes or confusion
• Collapse, Looking weak, dizzy, or staggering when they walk or loss of consciousness
If you notice signs of heatstroke:
• Move your dog to a cool, shaded or AC area.
• Offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water.
• drape cool, wet towels on their paws, belly, and neck.
Most importantly, call your vet right away just to be safe!
