The Ark Pet Hospital will be closed today, Friday July 3rd in observance of Independence Day weekend. We will be back in the office Monday, July 6th.

Here are some safety tips to keep in mind with your pets this weekend.

🐾Keep pets indoors during fireworks. Even calm animals can panic and try to escape. Close windows, curtains, and blinds to reduce noise and flashes.

🐾Create a quiet, secure space. Give your pet access to a favorite room, bed, blanket, or crate, and consider playing soft music or white noise to help mask fireworks.

🐾Make sure identification is up to date. Check that your pet's collar fits properly, tags are current, and their microchip registration has your current contact information.

🐾Exercise them earlier in the day. A walk or play session before celebrations begin may help them settle more easily later.

🐾Keep them away from fireworks. Even "used" fireworks can contain hazardous chemicals, and lit fireworks can cause serious burns or injuries.

🐾Avoid party foods. Keep pets away from foods like onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, chocolate, alcohol, and foods sweetened with xylitol, as well as fatty table scraps that can upset their stomachs.

🐾Watch for heat. Make sure they have plenty of fresh water and shade if they're outside earlier in the day, and never leave them in a parked car.

🐾Secure gates and doors. Remind guests to keep doors and gates closed, especially if people will be coming and going throughout the evening.

Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!

Unfortunately, Dr. Hageman and her family had to say goodbye to their beloved, senior Golden Retriever Rocky earlier this year. As veterinary professionals, we help families navigate these difficult moments every day, but losing a cherished member of our own is just as heartbreaking. While no dog could ever replace the one lost, they were finally ready to bring a new dog home and this weekend, we're happy to share that they welcomed a new Golden Retriever puppy into their family!

Meet Tango! 💜

This sweet puppy is already bringing plenty of joy, laughter, and energy to the household. You can find her in our reception area ready to shower you with puppy kisses and provide a puppy breath dopamine boost.

🌾 Foxtail Warning for Pet Owners 🌾

Foxtails may look harmless, but these grass awns can be extremely dangerous for pets. Their barbed shape allows them to burrow into the body and continue migrating deeper into tissue, causing serious pain, infection, and even life-threatening complications.
Common places foxtails become embedded include:
🐾 Between the toes and paws
👂 Ears
👃 Nose
👁 Eyes
They can also become lodged in the gums or tonsils if your pet chews or eats them.

Signs to watch for:
• Swelling between the paws
• Sudden sneezing or nasal discharge, particularly if there’s blood
• Head shaking or ear sensitivity
• Squinting, redness, or eye discharge
• Swelling, pain, or sudden discomfort

If you suspect there is ANY possibility your pet has a foxtail stuck, please bring them in immediately. Early removal is critical and can prevent much more serious complications.
Please check your pets carefully after walks, hikes, or time spent in grassy areas, especially during foxtail season. 💜

🎉🐾 Celebrating 27 Years of Caring for Our Community! 🐾🎉

Today we’re proud to celebrate 27 incredible years of serving the pets and families in our community. It has been an honor to be part of your pets lives through every stage.

What makes this milestone even more meaningful is that we remain one of the only independently owned, non-corporate veterinary hospitals in the city.

For 27 years, we’ve stayed committed to the values that started it all:
❤️ Compassionate medicine
❤️ Honest recommendations and individualized care
❤️ Putting pets first

To every client who has trusted us, every pet who has walked through our doors, and every team member who has helped shape our journey, thank you. We wouldn’t be here without you.

Here’s to 27 years of independence, community, and caring for the pets we love , and many more to come! 🐶🐱🎂
