💙🐾 Meet Hemi!🐾💙
Hemi came to us in pain and in urgent need of help. He was blocked and unable to p*e which is one of the most dangerous emergencies a male cat can face. Our team stepped in and Hemi received a PU surgery to give him a safer healthier future.

🩺 What is a urinary blockage?
A blockage stops a cat from passing urine. When the bladder fills and cannot empty toxins build up fast. This can lead to kidney failure bladder rupture and even death. It is one of the most urgent emergencies in feline medicine.

🩺 What is PU surgery?
PU stands for Perineal Urethrostomy
It creates a new wider opening for urine to pass
It reduces the risk of future blockages
It is often lifesaving for cats who block repeatedly

🐾 Signs your cat may be blocked
Straining in the litter box
Only producing drops of urine
Crying while trying to p*e
Licking the ge***al area
Vomiting or refusing food
Restlessness or hiding

If you see these signs, it is an emergency.

Dental health is one of the most important parts of a pet’s overall well‑being. Most families don’t realize how much pain dental disease can cause because pets hide discomfort so well. They keep eating they keep wagging and they keep pretending everything is fine even when it isn’t.

Here’s why dental care is so important:

💙 Dental disease is painful
Infected gums loose teeth and exposed roots hurt every single day. Pets rarely show it.

💙 Bacteria spread through the body
Untreated dental disease can affect the heart liver and kidneys. A simple cleaning can prevent serious illness.

💙🐾 A Gentle Reminder From H.E.A.R.T., Inc. 🐾💙
We receive a ton of requests from pet families all across the country. We wish we could help every single one of them. Truly. Our hearts want to say yes to everyone who reaches out.

But we are a small nonprofit with limited resources and a tiny volunteer‑powered team. Right now we can only focus on the families who are able to bring their furbabies to our mobile clinic here in Maryland.

Please understand that we care deeply and we wish we could do more. Your kindness and understanding mean the world to us.

💙🐾 Back to School Means Big Changes for Families… and for Pets Too 🐾💙
We hope everyone had an amazing first week back to school!!! Please remember that back to school time brings new schedules new routines and lots of changes for families. Pets feel those changes just as much as your kids do. When the house gets quieter during the day or mornings get busier pets can become confused stressed or lonely.

A few small steps can help your pets adjust:

💙 Keep morning routines calm and predictable
💙 Offer extra playtime or snuggles in the evening
💙 Provide enrichment toys to keep them busy
💙 Make sure senior pets and anxious pets get a little extra reassurance

Our pets thrive on consistency and connection. As your family settles into the school year remember that your furry family members are learning the new routine right along with you.

💙 Meet Our Team Member: Jill Erickson 💙
Jill first met the H.E.A.R.T., Inc. team through her volunteer and foster work with Anne Arundel County Animal Services. She continues to foster today often taking on the tougher medical cases and opening her home to pets who need dedicated medical care.

Before joining our staff Jill worked as an RN and brings compassion patience and caregiving experience to everything she does.

Jill has a heart of gold and somehow keeps everyone smiling even when she is the one who ends up covered in the worst bodily fluids our patients can produce.

We feel incredibly lucky that Jill went from volunteer to staff. Her kindness her willingness to help anywhere and her ability to handle anything make her an invaluable part of the H.E.A.R.T., Inc. family.
