IT'S NO MYSTERY WHY WE WALK - MEET SALLIE MAE & GUNTHER

We could not pick only one of our Labs to be our 2026 Why-We-Walk Poster Dog, as there are so many dogs in need from a wide variety of situations. Today, meet Sallie Mae & Gunther, a bonded pair of 5-year-old yellow Labs who were turned in to the shelter by their owners. Both dogs presented with skin issues, which are improving with quality food, allergy meds and fish oil. Sweet Sallie Mae had a large cyst removed from her o***y and continues to have blood in her urine. We are working with our vet partner to address the issue so that both pups may be made available for adoption. This duo is happy-go-lucky and their only concern appears to be separation for their medical treatments!

Please consider donating to the Walk to support Sallie Mae & Gunther's care or that of your favorite Lab Rescue pup giving.lab-rescue.org/dogwalk2026

EVERY Lab and Lab Mix that comes into the Rescue deserves quality medical care, a devoted foster family, and ultimately, a loving forever home. EVERY Lab we save has a story to tell, and whether it’s our standard, high-quality veterinarian exam and vaccination suite or extraordinary medical interventions, they all need medical care averaging $1,500 per rescued Lab. We walk for every one of the pups we rescue... those currently in our care and those we will save in the future. Thank you for your support!

Watch Lab Rescue’s social media leading up to the Walk for many more stories about the Labs that need and deserve our care.

CASPER
4 year old male
~ 89 lbs
Good with: Children 10+, dogs and cats
Needs: Single family home, physical fence
House trained? Yes
Crate trained? Yes

Status: In foster
Working on: Keeping the chickens safe, finding a job
Enjoys: Hanging out with his humans, nighttime perimeter checks, going new places

Casper is technically not a Lab, although he has the sweet, affectionate, counter-surfing nature of the breed. This Great Pyrenees/Anatolyan Shepherd cross took a left turn and wound up at Lab Rescue. But he is ours and we are his and we are committed to finding him a family that appreciates a beautiful all-around good dog. He’s easy-going in the house but happiest outdoors when he’s allowed to think he has a job, like keeping an eye on livestock as he was bred to do. He is keeping foster mom’s chickens safe with perimeter checks before bedtime! With his friendliness and love of people, Casper will make a great companion dog, too.

You might be a Lab lover if you love the smell of wet dog in the summer. Rex is going to make a fabulous companion for an active family. His self-appointed role in life is to be a loyal sidekick to his humans. He loves to swim at the dog beach and visit the crab shack, and his fosters know they can rely on him to be a good boy everywhere they take him. Rex is an energetic, happy puppy who doesn’t need a fenced yard if you’ve got a good plan for expending his energy. Lots of great adventures await the humans who can give this gorgeous chocolate boy the exercise, love and training he needs to be a superstar.
