Jett is available!

Jett is a 2007 Percheron gelding. He stands around 17hh so definitely a big guy. Jett is quite friendly. He is also quite big and is aware of that fact. He can a bit pushy, so we often use a nose chain to handle him.

Jett does not need stocks for the farrier and cooperates well with normal care. After his life with the amish, he had some wacky dental issues (probably why he was thin when he came to us) that we fixed and safe to say he is an EASY keeper. However, he does need to have regular dental care. All horses do, but Jett especially does as he will grow unbalanced and it causes issues. He is all set right now.

Jett was adopted last year and used as a trail/husband/ride around the yard horse and did fine with that job. He has had some time off and was returned to no fault of his own. Jett would be happy to be reemployed as a husband horse type, but probably is not suited for a total beginner due to his size and occasionally questionable ground manners. He is not mean or aggressive, but sometimes he uses his size to get his way (and if you were as big as him you would too!). However, I am 5'5'' and not that strong and Jett leads just fine for me, it's moreso you need to have some experience to convince him to follow your ideas.

Jett is super easy to catch, lead, loads right up, ties well, and again is quite good for hoof handling. He could use a refresher before riding, and we are going to get riding him this week now that he has settled back in. He lives out 24/7 and in his previous home was on hot-wire with which he did just fine.

Need a tall dark handsome gelding in your life? Adopt Jett!

Issac is still seeking his forever home.

Issac is a 2007 dutch harness horse type gelding. He is very tall at 16.3hh. He loves to be by people but can be hard to halter due to sensitive ears. He has gotten much better over time. Issac is a horse who needs to bond with his person first and then will do whatever yoh ask. He does have arthritis from years as a Amish cart horse but can still do walk trot and trail work. He is a pretty mover and could do low level dressage after training.

We made a change over the winter that really has helped us reduce waste. We used to free feed flakes of hay to our indoor horses, and even in feeders they would almost always pull a lot of it out to sort through it for the 'best" bits and trample all the rest. We decided to trial run feeding in hay bags. It meant way more work for our volunteers, but they really have done well with the change and we waste far less hay.

Now, having the 'right type' of hay nets really helps. Something durable, easy to fill, and that has a lot of capacity for 4-6 flakes of hay allows us to easily provide the horses with hay all day long. We added some hay nets to our wishlist, but if you have some extra laying around that are easy to fill, we would appreciate them.

Remember, horses need some kind of forage 24/7, and hay nets are a great way to help support them! If your horse is a little grouchy or ulcer-prone, consider adding a hay net to their stall to help support the grazing instinct.

Or, if you really want to learn how to fill hay bags, clean stalls, and otherwise be a horse helper, check out our volunteer opportunities!

This sweet girl is still here!

Tw***ie is a 15 year old halflinger mare who stands a nice stocky 14.3/15hh.

Tw***ie is broke to ride walk trot and we have cantered her. She is on the lazy side of life. We have done a little trail riding and she has done fantastic.

Tw***ie had a very interested home and they did a PPE on her, and their thorough evaluation found some arthritis in her back right hock. We didn't see it until she had flexions, but it means she should not jump or do hard work, and this home needed her to do both. So, they passed, and we lowered her adoption fee to reflect what we found.

So Tw***ie is a safe, solid girl who needs a lighter work home. She still has years of trail riding in her especially if that home could invest in equioxx (arthritis control pill similar to taking a daily Tylenol - usually around $1 a day) or Adequan (injectable arthritis medication that also works out to $1 a day, but given over a short period of time). She is currently on no medication, but, for riding more than trails it is reccomended.

If you're interested, please reach out.

A few days ago we welcomed back Alma and Jett, two horses adopted from us last year. Alma is a very gentle soul who is sound only for pasture companionship due to arthritis. Jett is a late teens percheron gelding who is broke to ride and a gentle giant.

These two are available for adoption again and hoping you will be their forever home.

These 3 continue to do well and continue to need a home.

Apollo is a late teens ish Arabian gelding. Around 14.2, halter broke and pretty nosy in your business type once he gets to know you. Getting better with his feet but still needs an experienced farrier and oral sedation.

Yankee is a 12-13 year old Arabian gelding around 14.3hh. He is a very gentle fellow and is coming well with halter training but will still need work on this. Requires oral sedation to trim.

Maverick is a 12 year old ArabianXAppy gelding. He is willing to wear a halter and has started the steps towards first cooperative actions, but is still a blank slate. Here is a project for someone who knows what theyre doing and has a lot of time to do it.

Sometimes it doesn't work out, and that is OK!

Blackberry was adopted recently to be a companion, but the two horses were not a great match so she came back and they adopted King instead, who is working out much better.

Blackberry is a mid 20s QHx mare around 15hh. Not sound for riding, yes sound for pasture puffing, good to handle. She is middle/high dominance and gets along great in our large mixed herd.

Spring project alert!

Winston is a very handsome 2022 bay gelding who stands around 15.2/3. He is extremely puppy dog friendly and good to handle. He is some kind of crossbred, maybe paintXdraft. He is ready to start under saddle this spring.

Winston does have a roach back but it does not seem to bother him.

Interested?
