Saturday is California Adopt-a-Pet Day! We'll be offering fee-waived (free!) adoptions on ALL the animals in our care, along with more than 200 other shelters throughout the state.

As of today, we have more than a dozen kittens in house and ready to meet you. There are far too many for us to take individual photos, but rest assured that we have an *amazing* assortment. All are 8 to 11 weeks old and they're simply adorable.

We currently have a couple of absolutely lovely dogs (one adult, one puppy) and have some transfers scheduled this week to boot. Keep an eye on our website as we continue to post new arrivals!

Saturday's adoptions still include all the goodies you'd normally get: spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchip, free well-check at a participating vet hospital, a free bag of food, and much more.

Brought to you by the California Animal Welfare Association.

The fine print: No advance holds available. Fee-waived adoptions are on Saturday, June 6 only and will be done on a first-come basis. Limit one free pet per household. We will be open from 11-5. Please arrive no later than 4 p.m. if you're planning to adopt. We appreciate everyone's patience in the event that we are crowded (we hope to be!). 🧡🐾

“We have all fallen in love with Ms. Tinkerbell. She seems to fit right in with the rhythm of our family already and we enjoy her personality very much.

“A special thank you to the people who helped us at Calaveras Humane Society. Very helpful, knowledgeable and made us feel like we were making the best choice for our family and provided all we needed to have a great start with Tink.” 🧡🐾

A peek behind the scenes of Saturday's puppypalooza -- the adoption of the litter we'd nicknamed the "baby gherkins" in honor of their mother, Pickles.

On the left of the group photo are the dedicated fosters, Ted and Lynda, who had Pickles (and then her offspring) in their home for more than eight weeks. They did an incredible job helping raise this adorable little family, and we are so grateful.

Every last one of the puppy adopters was truly spectacular. They were a mixture of locals and folks who came from hours away, and they demonstrated how dedicated they will be to their new four-legged family members by putting in some serious time waiting to take them home.

That's a wrap, everyone! 🧡🐾

Ms. Pickles (left), mama to the “baby gherkins” being adopted today, is already comfy and happy (and also spayed, woo hoo!) in her new home — and she scored a couple besties to boot!

Stay tuned today for adoption photos of the five puppies, beginning sometime after 11 a.m.

There were still five parties toughing it out in line as of closing on Friday (they’ve now spent two nights camping out!). It’s actually quite a lively group and they seem to be enjoying one another very much.

If you were considering coming by today in hopes of adopting one of these particular pups, we’d advise against it. They appear to be spoken for by some wonderful people who put in serious time.

Yes, we do have two other available dogs, brand-new arrivals just transferred in from another shelter. They are larger breeds and very, very sweet. Check out their photos and info on our website! We also have a lovely variety of kittens.

(For those who may be new to following us, we are a tiny but mighty adoption center with space for only three to five dogs at a time.)

We’re very excited to do these adoptions today! Thank you so much to everyone who followed along with us on this journey. 🧡🐾
