🐾 Better Late Than Never… Meet Dr. Grady Hester! 🩺

Okay, so we're a little behind on introductions. Dr. Hester has actually been part of the Andrews Veterinary Hospital team for about two months now, and it's high time we officially welcomed him to the AVH family!

With over 40 years of veterinary experience, Dr. Hester brings an incredible wealth of knowledge, a passion for surgery, and a loyal following of clients who know and love him!

🔬 Surgery is where Dr. Hester really shines! He has a special interest in soft tissue surgery, including BOAS procedures to help flat-faced breeds breathe easier. He's also highly skilled in CO₂ laser surgery using our VetScalpel, which allows for precise surgical techniques with less bleeding and reduced trauma to surrounding tissues.

Of course, he's not all about surgery! Dr. Hester also enjoys building relationships with pets and their people, and we're thrilled to have his experience and compassionate approach on our team.

When he's not at the hospital, Dr. Hester and his wife, LuAnn, stay busy with their own furry (and not-so-furry) family, including two Bernese Mountain Dogs, two horses, three cats, six koi, and a mini-farm full of activity!

Warning: Extreme cuteness ahead! 🐾💙

Meet Blu, an 8-week-old Mini Aussie who stopped by Andrews Veterinary Hospital and had us all melting!

Weighing in at a whopping 3.46 pounds, this tiny fluffball has already mastered the head tilt, has a weakness for beef liver treats, and apparently has a dinosaur for a best friend. 🦖

Those baby blues and that little face? Blu is going to get away with EVERYTHING. 😂

Meet Malibu!

This adorable 12-week-old Golden Retriever stopped by Andrews Veterinary Hospital and completely stole our hearts!

At 19 pounds, Malibu is already a professional heart-melter, enthusiastic snack enthusiast, and proud member of the “I’ll eat anything you’ve got” club. 😂

And that sweet little face? We’re pretty sure she knows exactly how to use it to get whatever she wants!

Here’s a little dopamine drop for your day. 🥰

Yesterday, this little cutie, Ace, came in for his kitten exam and vaccines. When we called today to check in and see how he was doing, his owner told us he was doing great AND THEN sent us this adorable video as proof.

We’ve officially decided that client videos are the BEST form of communication. And mega bonus points when they’re choreographed to music. 😂🎶

It’s impossible to watch this and not smile. ❤️🐾

Everyone needs a Scuba Steve in their life. 😹

If you’re looking for not only an amazing new kitten, but also a great dinner-party story, Steve may be your guy.

This little river survivor swam across the Nantahala and climbed into a kayaker’s boat to save himself. Since then, he’s been nursed back to health and has proven to be an absolute love bug. He adores people, gets along with dogs and other cats, and has a nonstop purr motor.

His adoption includes vaccines, deworming, and neutering. Now he just needs his forever home.

❤️ Surgery doesn't have to be quite so hard on the body.

As a CO₂ laser makes an incision, it can seal tiny nerve endings and lymphatic vessels along the way.

Why does that matter?

Sealing lymphatic vessels helps reduce fluid accumulation and swelling, while sealing nerve endings can help decrease postoperative discomfort.

Combined with the laser's ability to precisely target tissue while minimizing trauma to surrounding areas, this can make recovery easier for many surgical patients.

Because our goal isn't simply getting your pet through surgery.

It's making their entire surgical experience — including recovery — as comfortable as possible. 🐾

🩸 Why does less bleeding during surgery matter?

LESS BLEEDING → BETTER VISIBILITY → GREATER PRECISION

One of the biggest advantages of CO₂ laser surgery is its ability to seal small blood vessels as it cuts.

That means less bleeding but the benefit goes beyond what you can see.

A drier surgical field gives our veterinarians better visibility of the tissues and structures they are working around, allowing for greater precision during delicate procedures.

Less bleeding can also mean less time spent controlling bleeding during surgery.

Tiney Hiney (calico) and Tiddlywinks (the one eyed black bobtail) are currently fostered by two of our staff memebers. While they are not genetic sisters they were rescued at about the same time and have spent the last few weeks being nursed back to health together. They love each other and are the cutest things ever to watch.

They love other cats, they love dogs, they love people, and love each other. They are now looking for a forever home together.
