Something special happened this spring!🌸We welcomed back our friends from Riverbend Merrimack Valley (formerly Lowell House) for a four-week program at the farm.

Horses are uniquely attuned to human emotion, and that bond creates a sense of calm, trust, and presence that can be truly powerful for people in recovery. Healing looks different for everyone, and we’re proud to offer a space where it can happen through new experiences, shared community, and the unique connection between humans and horses.

There’s something special about the way animals help people feel welcomed exactly as they are.

For individuals living with dementia, shared moments with our herd can spark conversation, encourage connection, reduce stress, and create opportunities for joy and meaningful interaction without pressure or expectations. Sometimes, all it takes is a quiet moment at the table, a laugh, or a donkey resting his head beside you to help someone feel comfortable, present, and seen.

Big news!🎉🐴 Ironstone Farm is honored to be one of 24 local nonprofits selected to receive funding from The Savings Bank-TSB Charitable Foundation!

This generous grant will fund one full month of our weekly dementia-friendly programs and create space for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers to connect, share meaningful experiences, and find comfort and companionship with our horses.

A heartfelt thank you to Craig MacKenzie, Raichelle Kallery, and The Savings Bank Charitable Foundation for 29 years of uplifting the organizations that strengthen our communities. We are so grateful! 💚

Help us find our next therapy horse! 🐴💚 Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm is seeking a special horse to join our equine-assisted programs and help change the lives of children and adults with disabilities, veterans, and more.

We are looking for a calm, kind, beginner-safe partner who enjoys people and is ready for a purposeful second career in therapeutic riding, horsemanship, hippotherapy, and ground-based equine-facilitated learning programs.

LOOKING FOR:
- 8-16 yrs old
- 15.3hh or under (shorter is best to meet rider needs)
- Kid/beginner safe
- SOUND, little to no maintenance
- Average to narrow bodied (for riders tight through hips/legs)
- Good in-hand & ground manners (may have a leader during lessons)
- Good with loud noises, toys & props (for activities & games in lessons)
- Able to work in an arena & on trails
- Tie & stand quietly for grooming and tacking
- Prefer WTC with very good rhythm, steering & woah
- Easy to catch from pasture
- Enjoy snuggles & being loved on

NOT SUITABLE:
- SPOOK, BUCK, REAR, BOLT behavior
- NIPPY/MOUTHY behavior
- Green horses or ponies

LOCATION:
Within a few driving hours of Northeastern Massachusetts.

WHAT WE OFFER:
- Exceptional, individualized care & nutritional plans
- Excellent Vet & farrier care
- 24/7 turnout with shelters

BUDGET:
- Donation or free lease preferred (tax receipt available and may provide a tax benefit)
- Payment budget: Mid to high 4 figures for the right horse

Pre-Purchase Exam will be required. 30-day trial preferred.

Another year. Another unforgettable day. 💚 We were so grateful to welcome our friends at back to Ironstone Farm for another day program filled with connection, respite, and discovery.

On Belay creates a safe and empowering community for youth navigating a family member’s cancer journey, and spending a day alongside our herd with them was truly an honor.

Herd communication, riding, laughter, and those quiet moments only horses can create. This is exactly what the farm is for!

We can’t wait to do it all again next year

Horses, laughter, and a whole lot of heart. 🐴💚

This past month, we had the honor of welcoming Element Care PACE participants out to Ironstone Farm for a truly special experience.

Across 4 groups (including a fully Spanish-speaking group), participants spent the day side-by-side with our horses, grooming, guiding, riding, and making homemade treats for their equine partners.

For some, it was their very first interaction with horses. For others, it was a chance to reconnect with meaningful memories from earlier years and experiences from countries and childhoods far away.

But the feeling at the end of the day? The same for everyone.

“I just LOVED this.”

We’re so grateful to Element Care and their incredible team for this new partnership to create experiences that remind us that curiosity, joy, and connection don’t have an age limit.

The Ironstone Derby brought the energy from start to finish! Horse shows, hayrides, the iconic Donkey Drop, the craziest hats, and a whole lot of community spirit.

And the moment we’ve all been waiting for…
