Who Needs a Weighted Blanket When You Can Have Anna? ❤️

When Anna was found scared and wandering near a busy Redding intersection, her skin was in rough shape. Now, she's in foster care with one of our wonderful volunteers and is getting the time and care she needs to heal.

Her foster mom says Anna struggled with the first 24–36 hours, experiencing the stress we often see when dogs first leave the shelter. But with a little patience and a calm environment, Anna realized she was safe and settled right in. Now, she’s a happy, snoring couch buddy who gives the BEST hugs.

"She’s an easy going girl and really just wants to be near her people. She enjoys her crate as her cushy safe space," her foster mom says.

Anna is a perfect example of why foster care matters. A break from the shelter gives dogs time to decompress, recover, and show their true personalities.

You could be that person for a dog like Anna! ❤️ Apply to foster at havenhumane.org/fostering

Dingo’s Getting Braver Every Day!

This 2-year-old, 40-pound mixed breed was pretty scared when he first arrived at Haven, so we’ve been taking things slow and letting him find his footing. And it’s paying off! ❤️

Dingo is starting to open up and show us his sweet and affectionate side. He just needs a home willing to give him the time and patience to settle in at his own pace. Once he feels safe, he’s going to make a wonderful companion!

He did well spending time with another dog, but we’re unsure how he feels about cats. We think respectful, older kids would be best for this sensitive guy!

📍 Stop by our Adoption Center to meet him or give us a call at (530) 241-1653!

Thank you to our friends at Redding Subaru for making sure pets like Dingo are set up for success in their forever homes, with necessary care like vaccines and neuter surgery, this October!

Two Longtime Residents. Two Chances to Make a Difference.

Sheba and Shadow are our two longest residents, with more than 110 days at Haven. The stress of shelter life is starting to take its toll, and the volunteers who adore these two are hoping to see them out of the shelter soon.

Neither dog ended up here through any fault of their own. Shadow came to Haven Humane on a protective custody hold and was never reclaimed. Sheba came in as a stray, and although her owners were contacted, they never came to get her. Now, both deserve a fresh start.

🐶 Shadow is a lovable little weirdo. 😂 He’s two years old and only 35 lbs! He's got a little husky sass in a smaller package, but he's more laid-back than your typical husky. He's goofy, walks well on leash, and has pretty good manners. He can be shy, but we think someone will find his particular brand of weird absolutely perfect!

🐶 Sheba is a spunky, lively two-year-old girl with a BIG personality and plenty of love to match in her 60-pound frame! She's come a long way and is still working on her manners and leash skills. The shelter can be overwhelming, and all that energy can sometimes be a lot to handle. We suspect she'll settle in more once she's comfortable in a home, but she'll always have plenty of personality!

Both dogs can be selective with other dogs, so introductions are important. Shadow's history of chasing outdoor cats doesn't necessarily mean he couldn't live with one, and Sheba… well, she gives us a vibe, but we don’t have any concrete info on how she does with cats.

❤️ ADOPT: Stop by our Morgan Adoption Center to meet them!

🏡 FOSTER: Give one of them a temporary place to decompress while we find their forever home. Haven provides basic supplies and covers medical care. Apply at havenhumane.org/fostering.

These two have people rooting for them. Now they need someone to take the next step. Whether you foster, adopt, or share this post to help them find their person, you can make a difference. ❤️

🎾 Our Pet of the Week is a Simple Lady With Simple Needs

Butterball is a 7-year-old, 50 lb pittie mix who has simple tastes: you throw the ball, she retrieves the ball, you throw the ball again. She sees no reason to complicate things.

This girl can be a little shy and barky in her kennel, so she might not make the best first impression. Give her a tennis ball and a little time, though, and you'll be quick friends! She'll fetch it, bring it right back, drop it at your feet, and repeat (over and over again). Hide the ball from her and she'll give you a little raspy, barky lecture about it. She knows what you're doing. 👀

Butterball walks nicely on a leash, takes treats gently, and enjoys a good lounge in the kiddie pool. She may need a little patience as she settles in, especially around loud noises, but underneath that shy exterior is an incredibly sweet girl who really doesn't ask for much...

A tennis ball, some snacks, a comfy bed, and someone willing to throw a ball 100 times a day. That's the dream! 🎾

Butterball's adoption fee is FULLY SPONSORED thanks to our pals at Pals Fund, which helps cover adoption fees for senior pets!

Come meet her at our adoption center today!

Thank you to our friends at Redding Subaru and subarulovespets for helping pets like Butterball prepare for their forever homes this October!
