The Schlitz beer sign on top of the building caught my eye. Dobbins Bridge Road in Anderson County, SC. Schlitz was the namesake beer for Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company. The beer that made Milwaukee famous. It was advertised with the slogan “ When you are out of Schlitz, you are out of beer”. That was years ago.

Today its all over..

Schlitz beer has officially been discontinued by its parent owner, Pabst Brewing Company, ending a legendary 177-year production run. The decision to place the iconic lager on an indefinite "hiatus" stems from rising storage and distribution costs paired with falling sales volumes.

Because Pabst operates as a virtual brewer without physical facilities, it had been contract-brewing Schlitz through an Anheuser-Busch plant in Texas. As demand slumped over the last few years, the brand fell well below the minimum production quantities required by the facility, forcing its retirement.

While regular production has completely ceased, the brand is receiving a high-profile final send-off before the remaining supply officially runs dry.

Thought this post would generate some interest today being The Day B4 Father’s Day Car Show day in Downtown Anderson. Many of our car show owners are older, like me, and would know and probably even had crushes on some of these beauties. So, who do you think should win the honor of “BEST OF SHOW”? BTW, the car show starts at 10:30 and last till 2:30 and is FREE 2 SEE. If you want to enter your pride and joy. Registration starts at 8:00 and last till 10:30 there is a charge of $25 for car one and for those of you that have a car collector monkey on your back there is a $10 fee for your additional habits. Registration tent is at 118 Benson Street off of McDuffey Street (the only day of the year that you can legally drive the wrong way on a one way street in upstate SC). Start your Father’s Day family celebration with us, it’s an Electric City Tradition going back 25 years. Started as a celebration in 2000 and still is; the Cars are the Stars and you, your families and especially Dads are our Honored Guest. A half mile of smiles on Main Street all the way from Federal Street to Market Street. See You Soon. At our fun show where everybody in attendance wins and we have no losers. Hope to see you soon.
